Oscar VO: Jorge Guzman is a 20-year-old regional swim champ from San Diego, California, with a bright future
that has captured the attention of the Mosaic Collective.
And it’s easy to see why.
His name might not mean a lot to you right now,
but many are convinced that Jorge Guzman is on a fast track to becoming a household name.
This is despite a FlashForward that suggested a very different future.
Jorge: I was in bed - in a hospital.
I reached over to the bedside table for a glass of water - but my shoulder,
it hurt.
It hurt so much I couldn't pick it up.
Oscar VO: I wanted to find out from Jorge why he thought his story was featured by the Mosaic Collective.
Jorge: I’m not sure. I just put my FlashForward into the Mosaic website,
and about a week or so later, the Public TV channel asked if they could film a piece about me.
Oscar: What was their angle?
Jorge: They asked me how I was handling what I saw.
Oscar: What did you say?
Jorge: What I believe, that no “vision” is going to tell me what’s going to happen in the future...
I told them that it’s up to me to decide that.
Oscar: So you think you can stop what you saw from happening?
Jorge: That’s right. The lady over at the PTC said my attitude could really be a real inspiration for others.
I’m not looking to be a role model or anything.
I just wanted to help people like me
who maybe didn't like what they saw.
Oscar: So why do you think the Mosaic Collective then decided to feature your story?
Jorge: Don’t know. Maybe they thought I’d just inspire people another way,
to share their stories too.
Oscar: Because Mosaic is looking for something?
Jorge: We all are, right?
Oscar: So how’s that shoulder?
Jorge: It's, it’s alright, it's nothing.
I’ve just been pushing real hard lately. Big meet coming up.
Oscar: No pain no gain huh?
Oscar VO: Jorge Guzman’s courage is a precious resource in times like these.
There is no doubt that those who have seen his story on the Mosaic Collective
have drawn some measure of hope and inspiration from it.
But in this reporter’s mind there is something else in Jorge’s story.
Something just beneath the surface, as yet unseen.
In time we will discover what it is.
