JJC students should commit to complete because it's good to have college underneath your
belt before you go out in the real world and the experiences and the friendships that come
along with committing your degree, completing it here, and having your experiences here
is worthwhile on its own.
Well, I came to JJC for their vet tech program. I was originally going to go to college for
accounting, but then I went to an open house here for their vet tech program, and fell
in love with it. So, I want to be that person that you hear about saving these puppies in
the middle of the forest or raising a bear. That's what I want to do.
Some advice I would give students is take advantage of all the stuff they have here.
My first semester I wasn't involved, and it was boring and horrible and I didn't have
that many friends. But by my second semester, I was like, I'm just gonna go do it. And,
here I am with a student job and in Phi Theta Kappa. I made it up to an officer in Phi Theta
Kappa. I mean, you could come a long way in a short time if you really wanted to. Career
Services helped me get my student job. I'm a student worker in the Financial Aid Office.
Student jobs are the best! They work around your school schedule, if you're like, "Oh,
I gotta study for a test," they're like, "Go ahead!" They make sure that your student job
here is not stressful for the fact that you are a student. My advice to anybody coming
here is get involved! It makes college a lot more fun.
Well, I guess the biggest challenge would be not knowing all the resources you actually
have here. I think a lot of people don't take advantage of that. I would definitely use
the math lab, you could usually find really good study groups there, student-wise. The
tutors are really helpful, and usually they're other students, that's who the tutors are.
It's a really comfortable environment. The amount of work I get done in the library,
I could spend an hour there, and the amount of work that I get done in an hour it would
take me five hours to get done at home. Be friends with people in your classes, that
always helps.
You're saving a lot more money when you complete a degree here before moving on to university.
You get a lot more opportunities here, people-wise. Connections is a big thing in the career world.
