(applause)
And today is a very exciting day for us because we're going to officially turn the switch on a technology
demonstration project that we were funded from by
the state of Iowa, a state energy program grant
and this grant is to display and show
the public about the value and the use of solar power this is a perfect compliment to our
exsisting lab, because we can actually turn this space into a living laboratory
the main solar array
is located up on the roof and we also have
panels that are located on the south side of the building that you can easily see
I want to start by thanking our partners
First Rodney Blackwell and the Financial District Properties is a
leader in the sustainable
building industry
and has been an enthusiastic landlord and supporter of this
whole concept
from the very beginning
there aren't many places like this in the country
this is a national model
it's because of our partners we're able to do that
including the state energy program from Iowa's office of energy independence
which provided the funding for this specific and unique
technology demonstration project
this is an attempt to make sure that not only do our communities
seek the leadership that we're
providing it
in renewable energies
but also interesting students in STEM field, science and technology could actually be cool
To have Ellen and us work together to get this to happening it's been about 2 years now so it's quite a journey as usual
but we're very excited to have them here it's very exciting for me to have (unknown)
(unknown)
Little projects like this that just spark interest, and grow in our youth to get more involved in this field
This is, what we have here on top, what you guys are going to see today
that is a 15.36 KW so that pushes out
about 19,000 kilowatt hours a year
and as a home here in Iowa we
average about 10,600 kilowatt hours a year
so that array right there almost powers two homes
and you got the side array up here thats about a 4.32 KW.
I think that kicks off maybe about 3,600 kilowatt hours a year
I just feel very greatful to come back hopefully throwing in my expertise and excitement about this industry
