We've been experimenting for a long with antiquing and aging. It's really inspired from our old
Longaberger baskets. We always look at baskets that JW made. And those baskets were really
used in the pottery, they were really abused and they're still here and they have the character
of whoever touched it and whoever used it everyday left a fingerprint on it
This is the most involved, when it comes to our basket makers. Not only are they weaving
a basket, they are applying "aim" and they're taking off the stain to apply the accent stain
onto it, so there's a lot of hands touching it, they're very involved in it. They have
the freedom to sand where they need to and stain however much they want to but each basket
will look different. It'll have a unique look to it.
The lid is a little bit of a unique design; it's all one piece with a ***. Woodcraft
has done an amazing job, of course the lid is notched for the rope handles and the ***
is part of the lid itself- it's all one piece. This design helps if you have more than one
basket, you can actually stack them on top of each other without it not having it be
in the way. The handles are rope handles. They have leather
attachments that attaches to the band with a rivet. They are very strong, very sturdy;
they're made for hard work. This is not it, there's going to be a lot
more. This is only the beginning.
