I'm walking with my lantern
And my lantern is walking with me.
Up there, the stars are shining
And down here, we are.
A see of lights, in Martin's honor,
Rah-bimmel, rah-bahmmel, rah-boom, boom, boom!

Every year on November the 11th, children are celebrating the day of St. Martin,
the day of brotherly love and willingness to help.
Then, in honor of St. Martin,
Lantern procession are made songs are sung and games about Martin are played.
But who was this Martin, actually?
Martin lived in France, a long time ago.
He was a roman solder.
On a cold winter's day, he came to the gate of a big city, with his horse.
There, he saw a beggar, being dressed with nothing but tatters, shaking from being cold.
Everybody was just passing by, not caring about the beggar's suffering.
But martin showed compassion towards the poor man.
With his sword, he divided his coat in two pieces and gave one of them to the beggar.
Now, he wasn't cold, anymore.
The story about the poor beggar got around.
Everyone in the country was talking about Martin's good deed.
A lot of people loved and admired him, for what he did.
They wanted to make him a bishop.
But Martin was way too modest to accept this honor.
He tried to hide from those people in a gees stall.
But the gees quacked loudly, leading people to find Martin.
Martin finally became a popular bishop and went down in history as "St. Martin".

My light has died, I'm walking home,
Rah-bimmel, rah-bahmmel, rah-boom!
