the sacramento kings the n_b_a_ team
hadn't been shopping for anew city to essentially become annuity
and if they were on the verge of moving to seattle recently
and i guess where they were going to do is they're going to be the next version
of the seattle supersonics who a few years back ended up moving too ok c
who by the way on a side note have bud or someting made is the final last year
westbrook a rare
so on so forth
well the sacramento mayor who was a former n_b_a_ all-star himself
is fighting really hard to keep the canes where they are
but in order to do that would be just is he put two hundred fifty eight million
dollars in public funding on the table but he said hey look you guys can use
this to build a new stadium now that's actually the main reason that the the
king's management is getting as to why they wanna move to a new place they want
to have a new stadium
so why is this even an issue why my talking about it well a majority of
residence have not come out in favor of throwing that much money of of their
hard-earned tax dollars
uh... to
p pickings there and
of course the counter-argument want what you say that is well up keeping the
sacramento kings in sacramento will pay for itself because they're going to be a
tremendous economic boost
and while that may sound than in theory
there's been some studies that show well
that's probably not the case so in two thousand twelve the study was done for
instance that found the taxpayer financed arenas do not foster economic
growth in the cities where they were built
uh... johnson's proposal meanwhile hinges largely on future revenue trenton
generated by parking and financing plans that depend on future revenues rarely if
ever workout for cities
another example is louisville arena built in two thousand and eight and in
minnesota football stadium that is already running behind projections even
before it gets built
now even with all that evidence and the fact that
are a look at you invest the public money you're probably not gonna get a
return on your best known
what the still alive isn't right and i live in the new york
therefore away from the what does it matter
by one of the problem if
a majority of the resident said you know what let's do it who cares even if we
lose it were voting in favor of right
but again
they do not have any polling on the issue
and it's a virtual guarantee that a majority
would not want to spend your tax dollars on that
because
what fifty percent of people are gonna be uh... basketball fans in one place i
mean it's a tremendously high numbers probably not that many
basketball fans to begin with
but you any over fifty percent to get a majority anyway on your side right
well the nail on the coffin is this
the city
already has of five point six million dollar funding gap
for public schools
now this is adds to another example we've done the stories before
of i'm forgetting i'm blanking on the the
states and localities that we talked about in the past
where they did the same thing they diverted
millions of dollars in some cases billions of dollars to build new
uh... stadiums
and they're using public money for that right animee while the same time they're
slashing health care for children
how do you get to those prior art
that's *** not strike
well this is another example that
i don't know man i'd isn't just me i'm for it when i read things like this
this is now a son i turn into a small government conservative right
because i don't want government
taken our tax dollars and and subsidizing sports and by the way how
much you joining us and i watch it every single day on these big unmixed planet
fan is there is on planet earth
and i want to games though it might seem although is off the double headers on
t_n_t_ or e_s_p_n_ but does that mean that my hobby should be subsidized by
people who won the thing to do with it
