What we have here are a couple of glasses and
we're gonna put these seeds in them here. We've got
four seeds of Flo from DJ short.
Two here and two here.
What I'm going to do is take these two
and scarify them. What that means is
roll them around in this sandpaper and as you can see it is
120 grit sandpaper.
This is stuff they use for drywall. What I'm gonna do
is take this, roll it around, take a piece of duct tape
and stick it across here.
OK. So i'll do that and then I'm gonna close the ends off
and then put these seeds in it so I can shake it up
and it will scarify. So I'll take this piece paper
put it over the end so it won't stick you know. If it
sticks that is not a good thing because
then it can't roll around and scarify. Put a piece of
duct tape over here and another piece of duct tape
on the other side. There is a whole bunch of ways you can do this
and scarify the seeds. This just seemed like a fun way to do it
for me and I've got some duct tape. OK, so the seeds are in there.
Hell, they fell out.
Just a second, let me put them in. Here we go.
There's one and there's two.
OK, here we go. Let's see. I might have to keep my hands on the ends of this.
OK, there we go, you can hear them in there.
I'll shake them back and forth. You just want to kind of lightly
scarify them, you know. You don't want to rasp them up too much. Just make some light
scaring on there so that the
water can penetrate a little better.
We'll see if these two seeds
will give us a little better germination
than the other two seeds. So now
for the next step. I'm going to take this distilled water here
and put it into these two champagne glasses.
There we go.
OK, so what I'm going to do is take these seeds here. These are first, the scarified seeds.
I'm going to take these two little guys and just drop them in here.
OK, there's one.......there's two.
OK and they look like they already started to sink a little bit.
They always have surface tension. Now let's look at these other two. I'm going to take
these other two seeds and just dropped them here in the champagne glass and they dropped
Oh boy, that one is already going to the bottom. Look
at that. This seed is already going to the bottom. I'll bet
this is a viable seed. You can probably count on that right now.
So what we're gonna do is leave these seeds here for the next 24 hours. Let them soak
overnight
and then plant them in the morning.
