RICHARD FARR (Scope ambassador): I was shocked to find out that by the age of 26...
...young disabled people have four times less chance of getting a job than a non-disabled person.
I couldn't believe that.
SEUN: I've got my Masters degree, I've got my undergraduate degree.
I just don't want to be sitting at home claiming Disability Living Allowance.
I really want to work.
DANIEL: I have a condition called Asperger's Syndrome.
SEUN: From my waist downwards, it's kind of paralysed...
...so without my crutches and my caliper, I can't actually move about.
IQRA: My disability is Distonic Tremors, so I shake most of the time when I'm nervous...
...or sometimes at any stage of the day.
GUY CHAUDOIR (Scope): 43% of disabled people surveyed said they'd been turned down for employment...
...because of their impairment.
With the right support, 1.3 million more disabled people could be in work.
ANNA ADDINGTON (Learning Support Assistant): This programme is hoping to tackle the issue of...
...under representation of disabled people in the workplace.
On an average session, it will be themed around a certain topic.
SEUN: Some of the things we did was how to write our CVs, how to write our covering letters...
...how to fill in application forms, how to prepare ourselves for interviews....
EMILY BIRKINSHAW (Scope): We've had some inspirational speakers into share their experience...
...of the working world.
RICHARD: Companies for some time have wanted to give something back to society.
This programme allows companies' workforces to mentor individuals on a one to one basis
but also if the company can offer work experience as well that's really valuable to Scope.
JAMES RUSSELL (Specialist Works): I was shocked that Seun had a problem getting a work placement
because of his disability.
Seun being with the company has shown us that anyone can apply and be with us.
CAITLIN KILBORN (Accelerate CIC): I gave Iqra a task to do...
...and it had taken me about two days to get where I got.
She finished it in a day! [LAUGHS]
EMILY: This programme's value is that we encourage a bespoke, tailored approach for each young person...
...to make sure that they can go where they want to go.
DANIEL: It really has changed my life. I'm really enjoying it.
IQRA: Because I'm now more confident, I find that my tremors don't really affect me as much.
I feel calm and can answer the interviewer's questions with more detail and confidence.
EMILY: Businesses are really excited to get involved and they find that it actually helps their teams to grow...
...in skills like communicating with each other and problem solving.
JAMES: Disabled people are a huge talent pool that is being underused at the moment.
Accessing that is going to be really crucial to businesses.
DANIEL: There's some people who still feel like they can't do it but I'm not doing it to prove them wrong.
I'm doing it for myself and that's something the Scope programme has really taught me.
RICHARD: We want to roll out this program around the country.
The results we've found in London already through our first phase has been quite extraordinary.
SEUN: Whatever you want to do in life, you can always go for it.
RICHARD: Please get in touch with Scope or myself and get involved.
