OK, I know...I've been here for a week and technically I still haven't finished the actual journey over to Ilmenau...
...which is where I'm sitting right now, of course.
So today we're going to finish the journey; we're going to finish the journey to Ilmenau in the car and we're going to do it damn quickly. Let's do this.
[music]
So we're starting this video in one of our favourite cities, Köln...
...or it's Cologne in English, it doesn't really matter...I'll probably say Köln automatically.
Anyway, after a 12 hour sleep, we were awake and ready to go and we'd packed everything into the car, which was quite a feat actually.
You said none of that would go in...but... I didn't say none of that would go in, I doubted the direction of the guitar.
I got my backpack in as well.
And the camera bag is down there...and the laptop's round the back. ...and the camera...look at that, that's just majestic.
Well, we were so close to the city centre, it would have been criminal not to go and have a look, so we got in the car and drove over there...TRAVEL MONTAGE.
[music]
Look at that, €15! You are a terrible actor...
Nobody can tell that we've just put that back on the ground where you originally found it.
However, after finding €15, we did run into a little bit of a problem...Köln was dead...
Now this wasn't particularly the fault of the city...it was actually a bank holiday in Germany...in fact, the only thing we could find was a little bit of music entertainment on the streets.
[music]
Of course, as we got closer to the Dom, there were a few more people.
I could try and explain the Dom in words, but there's no point, I'll just show you the video and it kind of explains itself about why it's so fantastically magnificent.
I'm not going to fit this one shot... No, you're panning upwards.
Eh...that's like exercise...
So, with nothing much more to do, we stuffed our faces with German food, before getting back into the car for the drive to Heildelberg.
In 200 metres, turn left. Then, keep right. It is your destiny.
[music]
Now, it's said that Heidelberg is actually Germany's prettiest city...and it really isn't half bad...I'm not sure it's Germany's prettiest city, but certainly it is a good looking town...
...and there were a fair amount of tourists about.
Of course, it being a bank holiday again, there wasn't that much going on...but we did manage to see a fireworks show which was set on the old bridge in the old town.
[fireworks]
So we spent the night in Heidelberg and the next day, it was on to our final destination in Ilmenau.
Now, I know we've had two travel montages already and I know there were three in the last video as well... ...but, we're going to do this one really quickly...we're going to have POLYSICS in the background...it'll fly by...SO, travel montage.
[music]
And, of course, being on the road in Germany, we did consume some chocolate bars.
Today on test we have the Nussini chocolate bar...it's quite a light chocolate bar.
This could be one of those naff wafers, couldn't it? And it is...it's a naff wafer... It is?
And, anymore words? I wouldn't want to waste words trying to describe something that's naff.
So, yeah, it's like a wafer with some nuts on the top. And the nuts on top are like an apology.
[noise of tire going over white line] I just changed lanes by accident...
So next, we have the Milka Zack which apparently means 'click'.
Erm...I'm just taking a deep breath there because of those cars going very fast past us.
So what you don't know about this one, it took Kit half an hour to open the Zack packet...anyway, Zack.
Hmm, that's alright. It's alright?
It's got whole nuts in it and...erm...some kind of milky creamy stuff and soft chocolate.
No, that's tasty that...I'll have the other half if you don't want it.
So, next we have the Milka Tender, which to be perfectly honest, looks and feels like a Swiss roll. I'm just moving it so it's easier to eat.
One bite will be half, won't it? Yep.
It's just cake...with a vaguely chocolate flavoured filling that isn't really chocolate...and it's fairly ordinary.
It's the sort of thing you'd give to a young child to make them quiet. So you've just given me the other half?
Choco Crossies. So this is just...erm...basically cornflakes in chocolate.
Going by the rule that everything containing chocolate is good...it's not terrible is it? It's better than two of the Milka things that we just ate.
It's better than Cornflakes... It's better than Cornflakes because it's got chocolate on it!
Although, chocolate flavoured Cornflakes are pretty disgusting, aren't they? They are.
I just overtook a lorry while eating Cornflakes covered in chocolate. Yep, there we go.
Of course, we can get fairly decent coffee on the road in Germany, that isn't made by a...
Oh, there's a police car... Police car! Police car! I'm just...I'm just filming over here!
In one and a half kilometres, exit right. What were you saying about coffee? Keep right.
So that's it! We're at Ilmenau now...Ilmenau now, hmmmmm...technically correct.
Now when I arrived at my room in the CJD which is where I'm sitting now...we did have quite a few problems...
...in fact, it's been a bit of a horror story, but we'll save that for another video...until then!
