I think the term CPA is so broad. There’s so many different areas that you can go into.
There are definitely things that come to mind. When you hear CPA, a lot of times they automatically
think tax. But there’s so many different areas, so if you have an interest in numbers,
in analytical thinking, in problem solving, I definitely think that being an accountant
and being a CPA is something that you should really look into. It’s a very rewarding
career, and you can really take it wherever you want to go. I’ve always, growing up,
been good at math and science, so I was like “Ok, this is something I want to go into.”
When I was in middle school my mom actually was taking some additional courses in accounting.
I saw her studying and I stumbled across her books and I said “That looks interesting.
I think I can do that.” I was fortunate my high school had accounting classes and
so I started there and once I started it was something that came natural. I understood
it and I enjoyed it and I really never looked back from that point. The impact I feel like
I can have in the profession is helping the younger generation. Letting them know that
they can choose this profession as an accountant. And that it’s not all about the numbers.
Yes, that’s what we do, that’s what we’re paid to do, but there’s much more. It’s
what’s the story behind those numbers and what is it that you can do to help the community
overall with those numbers. So the numbers is just the forefront, that’s what people
see but there’s so much that’s behind that. And so as for what I see as my role
in the profession it’s helping to bring up the next generation and to let them know
there’s so much that they can explore with the accounting profession and being a CPA.
