My name is Jeanna Rock, and we're discussing how to name a book group. How you name a book
group can be important, particularly if you become famous. But most of us are not going
to be famous, and a lot of us are anonymous. But eventually you're probably going to want
to come up with a name for your group. I know our group had to come up with a name because
we actually donated money to an organization for one of the books that we read, and we
had to put the money in a name, and so we had to come up with a name. If your book group
is reading particular information, maybe political or African American, you might want to incorporate
that into the title of your book group as well so that people will know specifically
what kind of book group it is. You also might want to get suggestions from everyone in your
group. Maybe submit names, and then have everyone vote on those. Sometimes that can be pretty
competitive and very argumentative, but it also can be pretty fun, especially when everyone
agrees on a name. Naming a book group is kind of like naming a baby, and your book group
is going to exist with this name for years. You're going to use this name when you advertise
for your group to get new members or announce your club meetings. You'll use them on your
invitations as well. Our book group sent money to an organization for a book that we read,
and so we used our name for that donation. Also, if you're getting discounts at one of
the bookstores, you're going to need a name there so that they'll know what book group
the book is being held for.
