We’re trying to create a modern development enterprise. And so when I say modern development
enterprise, I mean an organization that can invest in local institutions, that is focused
on generating results, that’s always thinking about how we build the capacity in our country
partners and in local NGOs and civil society -- so that over time, U.S. assistance won’t
be necessary. And we’re very focused on bringing together economic growth and good
governance so that we have more South Koreas and fewer North Koreas as we go forward into
our future. And the modern development enterprise is really our way of changing the way we do
procurement; changing the way we manage human resources; becoming as entrepreneurial and
creative as we possibly can as a development enterprise. And Ushering in a series of results
in food and health, in economic growth and democratic governance that are really reflective
of how important development is, and of our desire to generate real results for American
taxpayers.
