I´m Chris Harper and with me is Melissa and we're going to be showing
you how to tape for spine pain.
Spine pain in this case, can be localized pain over a single vertebrae and may be caused
by anything from a pinched nerve to disc degeneration, a ligament strain or many
other causes. How KT Tape helps with this condition is it relieves pressure
over the area and may increase circulation as well.
For this taping we need to place the skin on stretch,
so we're going to go ahead and have Melissa bend forward.
Do this within comfort though if this causes pain
go within your pain-free range.
What we have done here is placed a red dot just to demonstrate where
this pain may be but this pain may occur anywhere along the entire spine.
For this first part of the application we're going to tear a full strip off the roll.
We're going to fold this in half and use a pair of scissors to cut
rounded corners on the folded end.
The rounded corners are so clothing doesn't get caught on sharp
corners and peel that tape off prematurely.
The next part this application is we're going to tear and twist
the paper backing in the middle of the piece
and when we stretch this tape we're going to apply
the stretch with our thumbs
evenly across the tape versus like this as it applies nice even pressure on the tape.
This first part of the application is we're going to stretch this to about eighty percent
so
if we do a full stretch and then back to off just a little bit
we're going to stick that down and then the vary ends of the tape we're
going to apply with zero stretch. So I'm just taking that paper backing off and
then laying it down so there is no stretch on that piece.
Our next piece tearing the paperback the same way we did for the first piece
and applying that same type a stretch this time we're going to apply this piece
in a vertical fashion straight up-and-down right over the area of pain
applying that down, getting that to stick well.
And again we're going to put those anchors down with
zero stretch on the ends of the tape so the
stretch on the tape is only on the middle portion.
And for the next part we're going to take another full strip
and just like with the first one we're going to be cutting this
into two smaller strips but rounding those corners
that is just helpful because if it's a sharp corner it may get
caught on clothing while taking shirts on and off.
And this tape may be on for a few days so you want that to last.
Just like with the first two pieces we are twisting and tearing that paper in
the middle applying nice even pressure lying that down just over the first two pieces.
We're basically applying four crossed pieces to create two crossed pieces
that stagger from each other. The next piece same thing
tearing that paper in the middle stretching it in the same manner.
We're going to apply eighty percent stretch so one
hundred-percent back that off little bit
apply that down. taking that paper backing off and laying the ends of the tape
with absolutely zero stretch.
We're going to give the whole thing a good friction
rub being careful not to peel up those ends.
That just gets the adhesive to warm up a little bit and actually stick.
Ok Melissa, go ahead and stand back up
Once you stand you'll see some wrinkling of the tape, that's what we're looking for.
Some tips before applying the tape is to make sure you don't use lotions on the skin,
this may effect tape adhesion. Also to be careful with taking clothing on and off as
this may peel the tape prematurely. Some complementary treatments for this
Condition may be ice, changes in posture or use of
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen.
KT Tape is specifically for the pain, please seek professional care if you
have severe or radiating symptoms, loss of movements or any other persistent
pain.
