Sulphur, especially at higher temperature, is highly reactive and directly forms a compound with every metal except for gold, platinum and iridium.
There is a mixture of zinc and sulphur powder on this sheet metal.
At normal temperature there is no reaction between these two elements I apply heating here therefore.
There is no reaction at normal temperature because in the granules of zinc powder there is still plenty
of zinc atoms left with very tight metallic bond between them. Amongst sulphur atoms there is a
similar quite strong bond, you may think of a covalence. Sulphur melts first, then slowly due to heat a reaction starts off.
