[Macbeth enters]
Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand? Let me touch you.
Are you real - or are you a hallucination, because I am so distraught over the ***?
You seem as real as the dagger I hold in my hand now. You are pointing me towards my inevitable destination.
Oh! - now there’s blood all over you. No, the dagger can’t be real; I’m just obsessed with the deed I’m about to commit, so I’m imagining things.
Now it’s the depths of night, and everyone is asleep; now is the time for evil deeds.
Let no one hear what I am about to do.
While I stand around talking about killing him, Duncan is still alive.
I must do the deed.
There, it must be time. Don’t hear that alarm, Duncan; it summons you to heaven - or hell.
Lady Macbeth: The security guards are passed out; I got them drunk. I drank, too, but it only made me brave. However, their drinks were drugged - they have no idea what’s going around them at all.
Macbeth [within the room]: Who’s there?!
Lady Macbeth: Oh no, the guards are awake! But we haven’t finished the deed yet! I should have done it … but he looked too much like my father.
Macbeth: I did it! Did you hear anything?
Lady Macbeth: Didn’t you just say something?
Macbeth: When?
Lady Macbeth: Now.
Macbeth: As I descended?
Lady Macbeth: Yes.
Macbeth: Look! Who is in the other room?
Lady Macbeth: Donalbain.
Macbeth [looking at his bloody hands]: This is horrible.
Lady Macbeth: What a stupid thing to say!
Macbeth: They woke up and were so frightened; they started praying. They said “God bless us” to each other, but I couldn’t say Amen.
Lady Macbeth: Who cares?
Macbeth: But why couldn’t I say it?!
Lady Macbeth: Stop talking about it, it’ll only make you crazy.
Macbeth: I thought I heard a voice yell “Sleep no more, Macbeth does *** sleep” - sleep is the most beautiful thing in the world - it heals and nourishes us -
Lady Macbeth: Are you getting to a point anytime soon? Stop obsessing over such crazy things, and man up. You need to wash your hands to get the - oh, my God! Why did you take the daggers with you? They have to be with the guards, to make it look like they did it!
Macbeth: I don’t want to look at what I did.
Lady Macbeth: Oh, whatever! Give me the daggers - only children are scared of the dead. Corpses can’t hurt you.
Macbeth: [jumps] What’s that noise? [looks at his hands] I could wash my hand with the whole ocean, and the blood would never come off - instead the ocean would turn red with - Lady Macbeth: Oh, whatever! Give me the daggers - only children are scared of the dead. Corpses can’t hurt you.
Lady Macbeth: My hands are as bloody as you, but I’m sorry that I didn’t actually commit the deed.
Lady Macbeth: I hear knocking. We should go to bed, and wash our hands. Then no one will ever know! If you weren’t so obsessed with your silly guilt, you would see how easy this all is.
Macbeth: I wish all that noise could wake Duncan!
