Welcome to the epsxe tutorial Part 2!!!
Previously, we've successfully installed epsxe...
Now it's time to configure it!
As you see there's the zlib1.dll file...
...as well as the bios folder...
...and the plugins folder...
Now run epsxe.
Since i have already another epsxe installed i am directed to this screen.
However since it's YOUR first time ,you might be directed to the wizard guide:
Once there, click config. The guide includes 7 steps.
That's the first one.
step 2 of 7: Configuring the BIOS.
The BIOS is the heart of the console or should i say, the console itself.
You can choose between different bios such as PAL for european consoles...
...NTSC for American consoles and... *** for Japanese consoles.
We will use the recommended one scph1001.
After selecting it click "next".
step 3 of 7:Configuring the Video Plugins(or Graphics)
Think of it that way:Without plugins is like running the console without it being plugged in to the TV.
There are numerous plugins to choose from:
Pete's opengl2 plugins are best suited for nvidia geforce cards...
Pete's d3d plugins are best suited for ati radeon cards...
...and Lewpy's glide plugins are best suited for old 3dfx cards.
Since i have a nvidia geforce card i'll stick to opengl..
but for those who have different cards the configuration is pretty much the same.
I'll use Pete's OpenGL2 Version 2.9, it's the latest and greatest plugin for geforce cards.
It was not included in the plugins pack so that's why we downloaded it separately before.
Take a deep breath... here we go!
RESOLUTION AND COLORS:
Desktop Resolution: 1024x768
Color Depth:32bit
Internal X Resolution:Very High
Internal Y Resolution:very High
Stretching Mode:stretch to full window size (standard)
Render Mode:Render to pbuffer, copy to texture.
TEXTURES:
Texture Filtering: Extended + Smoothed Sprites
Hi-res Textures: None
Also tick "use pixel shader for...blah blah"...
...and 3dfx card vram choose 512 mbytes.
As for the framerate...
You'd better use FPS limit otherwise the game will be unstable.
So tick "Use FPS Limit"...
...and the FPS limit you want.
You can choose from 10 FPS (Recommended For Gamers-Turtles)...
...to 200 FPS (Recommended For Flash, Sephiroth and other harcore gamers...)
For us mortal beings, let's stick to 60 FPS shall we?
You can experiment with that so as to find the ideal speed for the games you like.!
COMPATIBILITY:
Off-Screen drawing: Extended
Framebuffer Effects: Full
Framebuffer upload: Standard
So far so good! We've reached FULL SCREEN FILTERS
First of all, tick shader effects.
Now we're able to select our desired shaders on the right...
Shaders are used to give our own style to the games let-alone enhance their quality.
Click to the "..." box.
We have to browse for the directory of the shaders.
They are located to the "shaders" folder which is inside the plugins folder.
There are many shaders to choose from, each with its own unique feature...
This one enhances the quality of the graphics.
This one even more...
Of course there are cartoon shaders which will make the graphics of the games look...cartoonish.
The storybook shaders will make your games look as they've been hand-drawn.
For this video i will choose "4xGLSHqFilter" shader.
Just select the folder "original" and click OK.
As for the shader level, i use Minimum but you can use whatever you want.
Oh I forgot!!!!Where it says "1:Full screen smoothing" change it to "5:GLSlang files"...
...otherwise the shaders we chose won't be activated.
Also tick the MDEC filter so that FMV movies will look less pixelated.
We're done with Video Plugins.
Step 4 of 7:Sound plugins
Once again there are various to choose from, but "epsxe SPU core" is just fine.
What's more, there's nothing to configure about that plugin (phew...).
Step 5 of 7:CD-ROM Plugins
"Epsxe CDR/WNT/W2K core 1.7.0" is a fine plugin.
Step 6 0f 7:Controller Settings
Here you can change the keyboard controls to your pleasure or use a controller pad or gun etc.
If you want to change the controls click on the boxes and then push the button you wish to assign.
Step 7 of 7: Greetings epsxe is now configured!
As Dora the explorer would say" "We did it!we did it!".
