PUSD Board Meeting Highlights
for Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Superintendent's Report:
Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Edwin Diaz
announced that the State of California did not receive federal Race to the Top funds,
and provided an update on the status of federal stimulus funds.
Superintendent Diaz indicated that while PUSD is eligible for up to $3.5 million,
there are concerns about how soon the funds will be allocated by the State,
and whether the State would withhold the funds from school districts.
Mr. Diaz expressed concern that this uncertainty may affect
PUSD’s ability to use the funds to rehire staff and reinstate programs.
Asset Management Discussion:
The Board of Education reviewed an Asset Management Report
which provided recommendations for alternate uses of multiple sites
throughout the District to utilize capital assets to generate revenue.
Based on the report, Facilities Chief Steve Brinkman presented an analysis

the District Service Center and the Education Center.
The Board voted to move the administrative offices
to make the current location available for lease
by commercial, residential or retail tenants.
