Hello everyone. I'm Mindy Tran with OCLC. In this video, I want to show you how to use
the WorldShare interface to select and modify your collections in the knowledge base.
Before we can begin, you will need to access the WorldShare interface and you can find
your credential as well as your unique library URL to the WorldShare interface from your
Welcome Guide that is sent to you by OCLC.
Once you have that information, you will go there and log in and start looking for collections
and selecting and modifying your collections. So let's go ahead and get stared.
At the logon screen here, I'm going to go ahead and put in my username and password.
Once I've signed in, up at the top right hand side are a number of links and we're going
to be using the Metadata link. If your library subscribes to a license manager, then you
will see the Licenses link and that's the one that you will click on. It would allow
you to also manage your collections.
So I'm going to go ahead and click on the Metadata link here. Once I do that, you will
see on the left hand side a number of panels. I will expand that Manage Collections and
I'm going to go ahead and search for the collection my library subscribes to. In this case, the
Econometric Society Monographs Online.
Once I get the result for that, I see that it is the collection here provided by Cambridge
University Press. It is non-customizable as you can see right here. What that means is
that the provider has allowed this collection to be subscribed as is. You cannot pick and
choose titles and so you either subscribe to the entire thing or none at all. That's
not a problem since my library subscribes to everything in this collection.
At the results screen, I can just click on Select Collection so my holdings can be added
to all of the titles in the collection or if I need to check to make sure that some
of the titles are there, I can click on the hyperlink on the collection name to display
all of the titles in the collection. I can go in and do the spot check, make sure that
the titles are there and once I'm ready, I just go to the top right hand side and click
on Select Collection. It will lock the collection, index it and add my holdings to all the titles
in this collection. That's it if you are selecting entire collections in the knowledge base.
Now what if my library subscribes to a subset of that collection? In this case, we also
subscribe to the Safari Business Books Online 2009 but we only subscribe to a subset of
the titles in the 6000 plus collection.
In that case, I won't be selecting the entire collection here but it is a customizable collection.
I can select an entire collection if my library did subscribe to everything in the same way
that I would a non-customizable collection.
But since I only subscribe to a subset, I will expand out my collection, the collection
here, and my library subscribed to 10 Steps to Successful Sales. I can go look for that
title from the list here and then to the right hand side in my holdings column, I just check
the box here and now my holdings will be added to this title and then I just continue to
go forward in the different screen using the navigation here at the top of the list of
titles or at the bottom of the list of titles to do the same thing.
The easy way is also there's a search within. If I know exactly what title my library subscribes
to, I can just type that title in here. Let's say my library subscribes to Advancing Executive
Coaching. I can just type the title in and then hit Enter and it will bring up just that
title and now I am ready to go in and check at my holdings to this title.
For a customizable collection, when you add your holdings to a title, you will see a pencil
next to the title. That means that you will be able to click on it, edit information in
that title. Maybe the coverage, you want to change the coverage information, the date
information, ISBN information and you can do that here and we save the detailed information.
That's it. When you're done, you just log out of the interface. If you have any questions,
don't hesitate to contact OCLC support.
