My name is Sam Coley, I'm twenty and I run a company called SAMTEQ and we specialise
in digital interactive touch screens and also web development.
I never wanted to have grants to help me set up, so actually SAMTEQ was set up without
any external funding, grants or even loans from banks so we really kind of set up ourselves.
Quite unusual in that I've always wanted to set up my business using only my money which
keeps it hard but fun. The hardest part is probably the selling - there's
a lot of ups and downs. It's not easy in the way that you can't rely on an income so you
have good days and bad days but it requires a lot of determination to get through it,
especially in the early years when things are really tough but I enjoy it so it's alright.
The best part is the freedom you get from doing it. You're obviously your own boss and
you can push the business in the direction you want to go in as well so you feel like
you're really achieving something - everything you do is actually for your own business and
it's exciting watching your business grow and develop new things.
The key thing is not to be worried about the small things, just really get on and do it
and just meet every challenge as it comes along. If you sit back and try and think about
all the challenges you're going to face you'll probably get scared and not do it whereas
what I did is just threw myself into it and dealt with things as they came up which is
the key thing and if you have real passion for what you do I think you'll be successful.
