Hi, I’m Peggy Marcy, your professor. And, I thought I would share 10 Things you might
want to know about me whether you want to know them or not.
One, I love teaching. Teaching, however, is not my full-time job. My full-time job is
supervising the Language Learning Center at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA. But
supervising, certainly, is not my passion, teaching is.
So, two, I have been teaching for over 10 years in the MA TESOL program at CSU San Bernardino.
Teaching teachers is great, but I missed teaching adult ESL students.
So, three, about three years ago I went back to teaching adult ESL students in the credit
program at Mt. SAC. It has added a lot of sleepless nights to my schedule, but it has
brought a lot of joy back in to my life also. Four, I hear that I’m not an easy teacher.
Who knew? That’s because I believe in challenging you and expecting great accomplishments from
you. Truthfully, I hope you enjoy this class even if it might stretch you at times –
or maybe enjoy it because it stretches you. Five, I taught ESL for two years in Japan.
I’ve also been to Korea a few times, not teaching ESL, just been there. I went to college
for four years in Canada and have visited Cancun, Mexico. That’s the extent of my
international travels at this time, but I look forward to more in the future. I really
enjoy learning about and experiencing different cultures.
Six, I have two Masters degrees. One, from Fuller Theological Seminary and my MA TESOL
from Azusa Pacific University. I don’t have a PhD so you don’t have to call me Dr. Just
refer to me as Professor Peggy or just Peggy. Seven, for fun, I co-authored a couple of
listening and speaking textbooks called “Step Up 1 & 2: Listening, Speaking and Critical
Thinking.” Eight, I grew up in a small town in Kansas.
This is the satellite view so you can see the farm land. Let me switch to the map. I
grew up right there on Main Street. There were about 250 residents when I lived there.
That’s where I acquired most of my values and ethics. I still return every Christmas
to meet with my brothers and sisters. Nine, my best friend is my roommate, there
she is, who is from Korea. Her name is Young. She is studying English, and we live near
Laguna Beach, CA. Ten, I have a little maltipoo named Lincoln
who is the love of my life. You can find videos of him if you search Youtube for “Lincoln
cute ipegmarc.” His first day home video has over 7000 views.
Enjoy the class. Never be afraid to ask me questions. Thanks.
