Hey guys, Neemias here, Sigma's keyboardist
I'll show how I do the mastering process
The "mastering" process so to speak
It's more like a simple final treatment of the mix
Based on serial compression
Which I learned from a producer
That has a lot of videos on YouTube
He's called Felipe Lisciel
This treatment is based on serial compression
Basically you take a channel on T-Racks
Which is the software that I use
You increase the middle range on 1 channel
On the other channel you decrease the same range
So you're compressing middle range
And what's not on that frequency range
I don't know exactly what this process is doing
But I like the final result
As you can see I'm using headphones
As I don't have a proper monitoring system
On the first channel
I'll look for a good frequency range
With the Q at 0.3
Let me take one part of the song
That has a lot of things happening
I liked this region on 2200Hz
I usually increase it by 10db (I left at +9db)
The first time I did this I increased 15db
But I started to lose some punch on the snare
On the other channel the same thing
On the same frequency
But with the Q at 2 and decrease 10db
So on the first channel increase 10db
And decrease 10db on the output
And the second channel decrease 10db
Now on the first channel
Take the Opto Compressor
There's a lot of compressors here
But I use this one because I want
The idea is to have the gain reduction at
4, 2, 3 or something like this
It doen't need to be 4, 2, 3
It can be 3, 1, 2, it depends on the music
A song that's a little heavier like Analysis
I should leave the GR at 3, 1, 2
I don't like to compress a lot
Because I've had some problems
Like losing some of the snare and some transients
The ratio following the same idea of GR
Slow attack, fast release
Let's hear
It's clipping so I'll put a limiter
Let's go to the next
Slow attack but a not so fast release
The idea for the release is to be like
Fast, not so fast and slow
Ratio 2:1
That's it
Another Opto Compressor here
Slow attack, slow release
Ratio 3:1
That's the idea
On the second channel the same thing
So here is the compressors on the 2 channels
Then I put a EQ just to increase a little
The low and high frequencies
You can hear how it's louder and clearer
Another cool tip is, instead of using on limiter
And increase the input volume
Until it starts limiting a little
Take another limiter on the clip mode
Increase the input volume here
And control the GR on the other limiter
Don't let the GR to stay persistent
Just let it take the higher peaks
This will make your mix louder
Than with just one limiter
That's pretty much it
You notice the diference on the middle range
That's pretty much what I do on every mix
See ya!
