The African American Museum & Library of Oakland is a wonderful stop on our downtown tour of
Oakland. The African American Museum & Library of Oakland is located on 14th Street and Martin
Luther King, Jr. Way in downtown Oakland. The Museum & Library is a new addition to
our downtown. The building was, once upon a time, Oakland's Main Library back in 1900
and it fell into disuse. It was decided to move the collections of the library and the
African American Historical Society and find a new use for this wonderful old building.
So, currently, you can go to the library and read about the collections and then there
are exhibits upstairs about the culture and life of African Americans in the East Bay.
So, it's another wonderful stop on our downtown walking tour.
