>>Jonas: Hello, my name is Jonas Schmittel, I'm here with Mrs. Krist in her „Eine Welt Laden“, Katzenelnbogen.
The store supports global fair trading and we want to know what's it all about the sustainability.
Which products do you offer? [pause]
>>Krist: We offer food & handmade decorations which come from the third world. We heavily
deal withn products from central america, Africa & Asia.
[pause]
>>Jonas: What differs these goods from the others in the supermarket?
[pause]
>>Krist: Our Goods are „fair trade products“, i.e. The intermediate trade is disabled and
the farmers & handworkers get paid fair
because there is no fee/duty to intermediate traders.
[pause]
>>Jonas: So everybody who buys these goods supports poor people?
[pause]
>>Krist:
Yes, the fields are controlled by a special partnership society/company to avoach that
farmers have enough land and seeds for the following years. Thus they have save incomes
for the next years. [pause]
>>Jonas: Is this a sustainable development for the third world countries to stabilize
the economic system like in the western countries? [pause]
>>Krist: We hope so, but the fair trade actually is about 3-6% of the whole market. Our mission
is to raise the percentage of fair trade in the coming years.
[pause]
>>Jonas: Is fair trade in the beginning stage? [pause]
>>Krist: It is still in the beginning stage although it lasts 30 years. The consumer represents
the statement „cheap is best“, which we don't in common because it comes back to exploitation
of socially weak workers. [pause]
