Lesson one.
Basic Rock.
The first lesson is the basic rock beat.
For this lesson
I'm showing you how to play the basic rockbeat. We're going to use the count of eight.
Here on the hi-hat.
So you count,
one to eight, as so.
Together with the hi-hat...
On the base drum,
you're going to make a count of four.
And this will be,
on the numbers one, three..
five and seven.
As you counting here ...
So now you have a hi hat
and the bass drum.
So far so good.
Here on the snare drum ...
You play on the same count,
three and seven
So what you get is ..
The hi hats,
the base, and snare.
I play them separately together. Than you can hear what the rock-beat is, okay...
So we start of..
Now we'll just make it into a normal speed.
A little bit faster and we do the same thing for you so you can see exactly,
what i'm doing.
Now let's use the rest of the kit.
And in this instance still going to use the count of eight.
But I'm going to play three counts on the snare, three counts on the small tom ...
three on the snare and three on the floor tom.
This will be in the same time ...
as I'm playing the eight counts here.
So I'm going to play,
The fill first for you and show you exactly what I'm doing.
When I'm playing on the hi-hat here,
and I'm playing the first count.
I want to play this fill .. and come over to the right symbol.
Let's start again.
One.. two.. three ... four...
Now, once you come over here to the right symbol.
The hi-hat must do something.
So using your foot by opening and closing the Hi-hat.
You going to start using it in the same time,
as everything else.
A good example of this, is to make the foot go down.
So you closing the Hi-hat, at the same time as the snare.
This will help you keep in time with everything around the kit.
So you don't have to worry about what you're going to lose it.
What I'm going to do play the basic ...
Rock-beat.
Do the fill, come onto the right symbol,
make the hi-hat work ...
with the foot.
And than come back again and you'll see that is in the same time frame as the rest of
the kit.
Alright, I do it slowly first ... okay
one
two
three
four ..
Okay so far so good.
But thats a bit slow ..
What I'm going to do now, is the same thing. Change some of the directions for you so,
you don't have to keep the same pattern I'll keep going backwards and forwards
at a pretty decent
normal rock-and-roll
One ...
Two, three four ...
That's your basic Rock and Roll rhythm.
