The Santa Fe Opera was built in 1957 by conductor John Crosby. The open-air theater was constructed
on a beautiful Mesa, facing West, to take advantage of majestic Santa Fe sunsets and
an incredible desert landscape. The original theatre seated 418 people and
has been rebuilt twice, now seating 2,128 and attracting audiences from across the U.S.
and other countries. The Santa Fe Opera is an incredible adobe
structure. The performance theatre is called "The Crosby Theatre" in honor of its founder
who served as director of the theater from its opening in 1957 to the turn of the century.
The Santa Fe Opera campus is home to training facilities and rehearsal halls, providing
opera artists from around the world a perfect location to nurture their talent.
When in Santa Fe, be sure to visit the Santa Fe Opera.
