a top five of the top scorers of the tournament.
Of the 56 goals Gabriel Batistuta scored with the Argentina jersey, 13
of them were in Copa America which he won twice.
Severino Varela, nicknamed "The Phantom Beret" was the one that brought many goals to La Celeste
with a total of 15. He won the South American championship in 1942.
Teodoro Fernandez, "Lolo", was idol of "La U" and the entire
Peru. Author of 15 goals and 1939 title winner.
With 17 celebrations, Zizinho is the Brazilian topscorer in South American championships.
He won the 1949 edition and a year later suffered the "Maracanazo".
Like Zizinho, "Tucho" Mendez scored 17 goals. He is in first place
because he won three times: 1945, 1946 and 1947.
