Hello this is Burns Hargis, president of Oklahoma State University.
Today the Board of Regents of Oklahoma State University approved our budget for the next year.
I believe it's a budget that will enable us to continue to grow and expand
our land grant mission of instruction, research and outreach.
We appreciate all the hard work that our governor and Legislature did in managing through this tough budget year,
and minimizing the effect of cuts
on state agencies.
Still, managing through these fiscal realities while still trying to grow and improve the university
has been a challenge.
We've made a number of strategic cuts.
Our faculty and staff have saved more and done more.
Our donors have responded in the thousands to the Branding Success campaign.
Our energy savings alone have amounted to $16 million in savings.
And our students have supported the university not only with their dollars,
but with their sustainability efforts.
Because of all of this, as well as the need to remain competitive,
I'm pleased our Board of Regents has approved a modest pay increase for our faculty and staff of 3%,
with a minimum of $1000 for our lower paid employees.
To help support this increase,
none of our campus presidents
will receive a raise.
I want to thank everyone for their hard work this year
in fulfilling our land grant mission.
Have a great summer.
