It should be no secret that both the community of Pittsburg and Pittsburg State University
share a special partnership. A partnership that dates back to the beginning of Pitt State
when community members gathered over 150,000 dollars to rebuild Russ Hall after the devastating
fire. Today, that special partnership is highlighted at the annual PSU Community Campaign Breakfast,
which is the official kickoff for the campaign. At the kickoff both chairs expressed their
gratitude on being selected to lead the campaign this year.
Roger Lomshek- “It’s a great honor to be asked to chair this thing. Jackie and I
were both flattered to get the chance to speak for the community and encourage everybody
to give back to Pitt State for all that we get.”
Jacqueline Orender- “It feels great. I’m a PSU grad, graduated in 1990 and it was an
honor to be asked by Dr. Scott to do this. For PSU Director of annual giving, Josh Shay
understands just how important donors are to Pittsburg State.
Josh Shay- “For us to maintain the edge we have on other universities in the state
and in the region our donors are very important to us and President Scott always says that
Pittsburg State is very unique in the fact that our alumni are very supportive, the people
in the community are very supportive and the students are very supportive.”
For both Lomshek and Orender, it’s clear just how important the partnership and campaign
are for both the city and the university. Roger Lomshek- “Well it’s always and important
thing to do anything we can to help Pitt State in its mission to bring more students in,
to educate students,” Jacqueline Orender- “President at the hospital
said it best, recently we were in a meeting, we were interviewing with a new doctor and
he said one thing you’re going to notice about this community is they support Pittsburg.
He said they are all about Pittsburg, they’re about the hospital and they support PSU and
the Gorillas and that’s what this town is about.”
