Alright, today we're here to learn how to make this very cute little Cookie Monster
Cupcake, one of our bestsellers and a popular favorite for kids' parties.
I'm starting off today with a plain vanilla cupcake. Sometimes you can use a vanilla chocolate
chip, any flavor you like really. Some [batters] and equipment today.
I got two skewers. I've just cut mine off to make them a little bit shorter, a little
bit easier to manage. I've got a Loyal Number 3, just a regular
piping bag. I've got the Loyal Number 20 pastry nozzle,
quite a wide mouth on the end of that one. We've pre-filled that bag with some blue buttercream.
Now our buttercream, you see the consistency of the buttercream frosting you want to be
working with. Quite [spoon-aple], quite a [cool] consistency for piping. You don't really
want it much thinner than that or else you're not going to get the right effect.
We also have some Berry Blue Aeroplane jelly in our bowl over here, jelly crystals.
We've used just the regular (Inaudible 1:17) Queen Blue food dye to color that buttercream.
And we're using some Nestle Chocolate Melts in the white chocolate along with some chocolate
chips for his eyes. And we've got some chocolate chip cookies
just over here. So first things first.
We've got our piping bag filled, as I mentioned, with that blue buttercream.
Now you do want to make sure that your buttercream is right on the end, almost coming out the
end so that you don't get any air bubbles or anything that's going to go [splat] as
you're piping. I'm going to position that directly in the
middle of the cupcake. And I'm just going to squeeze gently. You
don't need to go terribly fast on this. So you can see it's just coming out on a lovely
amount. I'm just using just enough pressure to let
it just sort of push it out, not too much that it goes everywhere.
See that? We've got a little nice blue mountain. Now to get Cookie Monster's lovely fairy look,
I'm going to take that mountain and we're going to roll it in these Berry Blue jelly
crystals. Just give that a couple little turns just
to make sure it's nice and coated. Put that to the side.
Now we've got our coated little mountain. I'm just going to use the palm of my hand
just to round that down, just to give it that nice Cookie Monster head shape. Look at that?
Beautiful. Alright, now for Cookie Monster's eyes, I've
got some pre-melted Nestle white chocolate over here.
So I'm just going to just dip my skewer to that one.
And just pop a little bit of white chocolate right on the edge of each of those Nestle
Melts. While that's still wet, I'm going to get two
chocolate chips, preferably about the same size, just for the consistency for his eyeballs.
Just perched them on the edge there. Here we go.
Leave those for a couple of seconds to dry. Cookie Monster's mouth is essentially a cookie
because he's eating it, so always a chocolate chip cookie for Cookie Monster. I like to
find a nice small-ish and very thin cookie. Because if you get a cookie that's too thick,
it will taste delicious but it has potentials to take Cookie Monster's head off.
Now with this one, I am going to support the cupcake around the back here.
And when I put the cookie in, I'm just going to slightly tilt it down so it's going a little
bit on to the cupcake so that doesn't...you sort of want to look a little bit of half-
angle here. Position it down and just push it nice and
slowly. You don't want to go too fast on that. Alright, if you'd like to neat that up at
all, you can just use that palm of your hand again. There we go, just to smooth that down
around that cookie. Last but not the least; we've got Cookie Monster's
eyes. So we take out two eyes. Now the eyes are something that you can make quite a bit
in advance if you're making quite a few of these and you want to save some time on the
day. With Cookie Monster, he's crazy for cookies
so he always want to have the eyes looking that sort of manic cookie-themed look. I always
position one eye right down on to the blue icing and the other one looking up in the
opposite direction as he's eating out his cookie.
So there you have your Cookie Monster cupcake.
