Jay Trask >> They were used for promotion for the university. So these could travel
around as a recruiting tool. All we have for information is "CSNS Outing," so "Colorado
State Normal School Outing." It’s a slide that has two wagons filled with students.
What we have to do is figure out, since we know this is the Normal School, we know this
picture is before 1910. Then, you’ve got to look at the dress and figure out from
costuming. Women were wearing this kind of dress in this era. This picture then is probably
1905. Q: One of the student recruiting trips then? A: This was just an outing for the students
and to show potential students what a great time you can have here in Greeley. Q: How
many of those did you have? Quite a few. Specifically related to the university, we’ve got
this box right here, but lantern slides they used in lectures, lantern slides they used
throughout campus, we’ve got thousands and thousands of them. And I just love these.
Just have to show one more because some of them they hand colored. So they would take
the picture and then someone from News and Pubs would go in and color in the proper hair
colors and everything like that.
