>> My name is Christian Villarreal.
I'm a Cerritos College student.
And I'm a math major.
And I'm a math tutor at the MLC.
And I would like to pursue a career as an educator,
as a math instructor for the high school level.

>> As I mentioned I'm a math tutor.
And math has always come very easy.
Then when I started taking pre-calculus, it wasn't the same.
I realized that it takes a lot of practice.
And it just, it was very overwhelming; it was very fast for me, fast-paced.
I realized that I didn't have those skills to continue to stay focused and to be motivated.
I struggled with that class.
I struggled with the class and I'm looking forward to take it again.
I'm looking forward to succeed.

>> So what I'm gonna do to prepare myself more is to keep up my skills.
I'm gonna review everything.
I'm gonna go through all my notes.
I'm gonna go through all my homework assignments.
In an intense class like mine, like pre-calculus, I noticed that studying together,
as soon as the class will finish, as soon a lecture was done, I will get together
with colleagues and say, okay, when can we study?
When are we gonna study?
And set time up immediately.
Immediately.
And then follow up with that time.
You know, make a commitment to that time.
Continue to follow the schedule that you have with you, the syllabus.
Because when you have a syllabus, the instructor gives you a syllabus it's telling you
when are we gonna have a quiz, when are we gonna have a test, expect to have a test by this week,
and expect to finish this section.
If you refer back to the syllabus, and maybe even highlight, okay,
we're done with this section; we're done with this section.
If you just are on it and you're referring back to your syllabus, and you know what's expected,
you know what's coming up, it's definitely a good way to motivate yourself to keep going.
Find a way of getting the book before the class starts.
A lot of us who we don't read the material until the teacher talks
about it, but we need to know it.
We need to read the material before the instructor gives a lecture.
I think it's important to read what's gonna be expected on the following week.
So when you have a lecture you've already read it.
Build a network with students, definitely just get together,
with students, and study the material.
Because if you know something that somebody doesn't know, you're passing that knowledge
to somebody else, that's a great way of learning.
When you learn something and you give it to somebody else,
then that's a way that you know that you've learned something.
