Hi everyone. This is Mike from OCLC. In this video, we'll show you how to manage accounts
for multiple OCLC symbols in WorldShare Interlibrary Loan. So this video is for libraries who do
ILL over OCLC with more than one OCLC symbol. So if you have branch libraries that do their
own cataloguing and they have their own OCLC symbol as a result, and each of those branches
do ILL with their respective OCLC symbol, if you want to know how to manage all the
accounts or all your OCLC symbols, that's the audience that we want to address with
this particular video.
So remember, every institution using WorldShare ILL is going to have its own custom we address.
That custom web address is tied to your institution. The way that we tie it to your institution
is by your OCLC symbol. So if you have more than one OCLC symbol for your library that
does ILL, each one of those OCLC symbols is going to have its own custom web address.
For example, for my training accounts I have these two symbols, TPU and TPV. And I have
custom web addresses for each. There's just this one slight little difference in the custom
web address that makes them unique from one another. But they are unique. And when I'm
logging in to TPU, I have to go to this custom web address for TPU or the custom web address
for TPV.
And remember what we say about the custom web addresses is that you want to bookmark
them in your web browser. So these are screenshots from Google Chrome, Internet Explorer version
8, and Mozilla Firefox. Now I'm not recommending that you bookmark your custom web address
in three different browsers like I do. I just have it bookmarked in three different browsers
because I like to test WorldShare ILL in all the different browser displays. But the more
important thing I want to point out here is that each of the symbols that I use for WorldShare
ILL are all bookmarked in each of these browsers. So in addition to TPU and TPV, I have WSTPU,
WSTPV, and they're all bookmarked in my browsers. So if I want to go to one of those accounts,
I go to that custom web address for that account.
Now as far as setting up the accounts, the OCLC services user account for each custom
web address, what we recommend is you can either use a similar username and password
or just follow the same logic. So for example, let's say my two OCLC symbols that I do ILL
with are ZZZ and QQQ. So I'm just going to setup a similar logic for all my logins. So
when I go to the custom web address for triple Z, it's going to be ZZZ01, ZZZ123. And it's
going to be something similar for QQQ, QQQ01, QQQ123. So in other words, this ZZZ01, it
will not get me in to the triple Q, it only gets me into ZZZ. Now truth be told, to give
another example, if you want to setup the same username and password for each custom
web address, that's fine. It's not going to hurt anything. No one's going to tell you
that you can't do that. If that helps you remember just to use one username and password
for each custom web address, for each symbol, that's fine.
But remember, when you're logging into ZZZ, you're logging in with ZZZ's ILL staff username
and password. But it's entirely up to you how you want to setup those accounts. Just
remember that the custom web address is tied to the symbol, and then just follow a similar
logic for setting up the username and password for each custom web address for each symbol.
