LCCC's dining hall facilities are under construction, but thanks to good planning, it won't be for long.
The old facility was about 35 years old and it was outdated and very unsafe.
The college's dining hall was in serious need of an overhaul
but for the sake of the college community they weren't wanting it to be a long haul.
It was originally scheduled to be a yearlong project but because of the impacts on the college and the issues
associated with renovating a space, we felt like it would be less of a nuisance to everyone
to just fine tune that down to a six month project.
By cutting the length of the project in half, the students will only have to pardon the construction dust
for this spring semester.
One of the challenges is simply when you do a renovation versus new construction, there's always impact
because the space you're using has to be shut down.
The college is renting a mobile kitchen and dining facility to get through this brief construction process
and by the start of the fall semester, the renovation will be completed and meals will be ready to be served.
The new facility will be modern so it'll be state of the art.
The quality of food should be improved, the cost of the food should go down and hopefully we'll attract
some interest just because of the beautifulness of the new facility.
The area has been designed to be very inviting and will hopefully supply more than just a nice area to eat.
So we wanted to create an atmosphere, a setting where people could sit down and visit and socialize
So I think it's going to do a lot for just bringing together the campus community.
