[Music] >> LES BROWN: Ladies and gentlemen, I'm clear.
We live in the greatest country in the world that gives us an opportunity to live a life
of contribution. [Applause]
[Music] >> LES BROWN: I've found that most people
fail in life not because they aim too high and miss, most people fail in life because
they're just like I was for 14 years, they aim too low and hit. I remember seeing the
late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale who wrote "The Power of Positive Thinking" and Robert Schuller
talk about possibility thinking, and the number one motivational speaker on the planet, Zig
Ziglar, who wrote, "See You at the Top." How many like to help people? Raise your hands,
please. I love to help people. And then my heart would say, I could do that. And then
my mind would say -- after I would leave there going to my car -- Les Brown, you can't do
that. You were labeled educable mentally retarded when you were in the fifth grade, put back
from the fifth grade to the fourth grade. Les Brown, you can't do that, you failed in
the eighth grade. Les Brown, you can't do that, you don't have any college training.
You never worked for any major corporation. Les Brown, you can't do that, you don't even
know who your birth parents are. How many ever thought about something you wanted to
do and you talked yourself out of it? Raise your hands, please, if you understand what
I'm talking about. [Music]
[Applause]
