Expect some parking-related changes Autumn Semester. For one, the price of a parking
permit has increased to $35. However, if you do the math, the overall cost for many students
is actually lower. Previously, permits were $25 a quarter - fall, winter and spring. That’s
$75 a year if you don’t attend summer classes. Now, it’ll be $35 each semester – Autumn
and Spring. That’s just $70. More changes include fines. Not getting a
permit to register your vehicle will now cost you $100. Other parking violations are also
higher. They include obstructing or prohibited parking - $100. Parking in a restricted zone,
$50, Expired meter - $20. Why the increase? Fines were so low that they didn’t deter
violators - - and many students were not registering their cars.
More information about parking permits and fines is at the top of the page at cscc-dot-edu-slash
parking. Zach Tarantell: Now for parking lots. Remember
– two of the largest lots are just a short walk to campus. One of them is right here
behind the parking garage. This is parking lot 30, 31, and 32-S. All
for students. There’s only one entrance and it’s off of Jefferson Avenue. So, with
all of the one-way streets you may have to circle around the block.
Keep in mind there’s no crosswalk at the back of that lot which is where cars fly off
of the interstate. You’ll want to walk down to the crosswalk by the garage since it has
a signal. If you arrive for classes between peak times
of 10 and two you’ll want to know about another large lot - 28-S. It’s several
blocks down Mt. Vernon Avenue. Even though you’ll have about an eight minute walk up
to campus the 28-S lot almost never fills up.
If you’re new to campus, you might want to visit before classes start to get familiar
with the different parking options. Our parking maps on the parking web page feature
all of the lots. That page also has a link to our parking twitter
account. It provides real-time parking updates on the first two days of classes each semester.
