CSUN provided me the flexibility, the environment to grow and find a path for my dreams.
I work in NASA Headquarters, which is located in Washington, DC.
I'm a program executive for the New Frontiers Program,
and this program has currently three missions.
One is the New Horizons Mission
that has already been launched and is on its way to Pluto.
And also now we have a mission that is called the Juno Mission that is about to launch on August 5 of 2011.
We're going to go to Jupiter with solar panels.
It's going to be a majestic spacecraft that will deploy its solar cells. Really, it's like solar wings
that will be over nine meters in length. So it's really an amazing spacecraft
and it will be the fastest machine that human beings ever built, traveling at a speed of 160,000 miles per hour.
And then we've recently just selected a new mission. We're very excited to return a sample from an asteroid
that is called OSIRIS-REx under the New Frontiers Program, which is the one that I manage.
I would say, as a message to students that are trying to find their way in their career path in their lives,
is to follow their dreams, to never give up, to continue and be very persistent,
to be true to oneself that you'll find that environment that is right for you.
For me it was CSUN. The University provided me the environment to grow
and to make my dreams come true.
