Tip:
Highlight text to annotate it

Hello there. In this video we're taking a look
at how to create an animated lower third title in Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
We're looking at an example on the screen. When I click the play button we see the title animate across the screen and stop.
This is the animated lower third title that I will be showing you how to create in this video.
The first step is to create the text.
I'm going to move my current time indicator over to a second copy of this video clip that does not
yet have the title on it. Now I'll add the text for my lower third. To do that I go up to the text menu. Click the text menu look for new text
and select default text from the list.
That adds some editable text to the screen and opens the adjustments panel for text.
I can highlight the words add text.
Once I've done that I should be able to type and replace the words add text with my own text.
Now that I've done that I'll click the selection tool. Select my text. I can reposition it.
Select the text button. From here I can choose to align the text vertical and horizontal center by using these buttons.
That text is pretty small so I'm going to change the size.
It's 68 right now. I'm going to drag the slider to the right until I get it much larger around 176 or so. That's pretty close.
And now I have my text is much larger for my title.
What I need to do next is change the style and color of this text until I'm happy with it. To do that I click the style button.
I'm selecting Adobe Garamond Black 90 for this one.
That automatically changes my text to that style. When I click the text button I see that
I can also change font and style and color here is well.
I am going to change the color. Select the color picker by clicking the color properties button.
Now here I can select both fill and stroke when available.
I'm currently on the fill color and when I look at the colors I see that there's a little circle. I just need to drag that to where I want it to go.
I'm going to make this kind of a green color to match the foliage in this video. When I'm happy with
it I leave it there. I can change to stroke and change the stroke color if I like.
I can also experiment with gradients and drop shadows. For now I'm going to leave it as it is. Click OK.
My next step is to add a shape for my lower third. So I'll click the shapes button.
I'm selecting the rounded rectangle for this particular lower third title.
Click that and now I can drag a rectangle across my screen to make my shape.
Notice that it goes on top of the text but we can fix that. I make it nice and long because
I'm going to be animating this and I don't want the ends cut off.
I'll drop that. Right click on the shape.
Go to arrange sent to back. And now it's behind the text.
Come back and get my selection tool. I'm going to move that title over.
I can reposition things where I want them to go when they're in their final state.
Now I'll right click on this shape go to position and select lower third to put it in the lower third position.
Notice that drops it down so I need to select my text and move it down too. I'm not particularly happy with the color of this shape so I'll
select it and go to the color properties for that shape.
I'll select black in this case. I think I'll use a drop shadow.
There's a little bit of distance. You can experiment with a gradient on this that sometimes looks really good
but for now I'll just select OK. So now I have the basic text and shape for my animated lower third.
I can go ahead and close the adjustments panel for the text.
But I see that it's not animated. It's just sitting on there right now.
So to animate it first thing I want to do is come to the timeline make sure that that tile is selected.
Then I go up to applied effects in the right corner and click that.
To make the animation I need the motion area of the applied effects. I'll click the triangle to open this.
I'll be animating the position.
To get to the key frames that I need or the key frames area I click the
show hide key frame control button. It's a little blue stop watch button in the right corner of this
Click that and now I can see the timeline for the key frame where I can add that animation.
Now I'm going to start with the final position first since it's already there.
So I'll come out oh to about here. I'm just guesstimating. I can adjust this later the final state.
I've positioned my current time indicator at the end state. Come over to where it says position
and click the blue button just to the left of that where it says toggle animation.
That adds a key frame right at that point the endpoint.
Next I drag this timeline current time indicator playhead clear to the left to the beginning state.
Here is where I want to move this position all the way to the left to get it off the screen. So I can do that
by dragging theslider under the position for the horizontal position.
I can drag that to the left and we see that it's moving off screen.
I can keep doing that until I get it off screen.
Now I can actually click directly on this and drag it but for this I'm just going to keep dragging to the left.
And that way I won't inadvertently
change the Y position. I want to come in nice and smoothly.
So get to about negative 600 and 83 or so. There negative 685 it's completely off the screen.
When I click the play button under the monitor I watch this slide into the screen.
Now if that happens to quickly I can go back into the motion area.
Make sure that I've selected my title slide. Go back into the motion area.
And I can adjust the end key frame. I can make it go little slower by moving into the right or it go quicker by moving it to the left.
And test that and that's not too bad. I think I'll leave that. So now I can go ahead and collapse everything if I want to.
I can close this and this and this.
Now I have my animated lower third, but I see that it pops on the screen and then pops off.
Let's do a little bit of adjustment. First I'm going to click on the title on the timeline. Drag it to the left until snaps to the beginning.
of the video clip below it.I need to decide how long I want it to remain on the screen.
So perhaps let it come on the screen and stay for a few seconds.
Maybe to about there. To extend the title I click on it.
Look for the cursor to change to a bracket. Drag to the right just a little bit.
And that places it on the screen for just a little bit longer until I'm ready for it to go off.
If I believe it's too long I can always shorten it and I may do that.
Bring it back a little bit. Now one thing that it does that I still don't like is it just
pops off the screen. I can actually fade that out. If I right click on the title in the timeline
look for fade and then fade out video.
That gives it a nice fade out instead of just dropping off.
When it gets to the end it simply fades out and that's a little bit smoother.
So that is how you create an animated lower third title in Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
I hope you found this information helpful.
Good luck with your video editing and goodbye for now.
