>> Matt: Whats up peeps? Welcome back to Sourcefed. Deadly Animal Edition!
[MUSIC]
Now when you clicked on this video, you probably had an idea in your head of what the deadliest
animal on earth was. On the count of three, I want you to say it out loud and Ill tell
you if youre right. Ready? One, Two, Three!
Ha! Youre all wrong! Or am I deaf? Mump. Mump. Hmm.
Im sure a lot of you said sharks, bears, or lions. Well, bears arent even on this
list. Sharks? Well on average they only kill 10 people a year. Lions kill roughly 10 times
that number, but come on. Were talking about the big dogs here. Oh yeah, speaking
of dogs, due to their tendency to transmit rabies, they kill on average, about 25,000
people a year. Still your best friend? I want you to look at these pictures of dogs closely.
They seem cute, but all of these dogs are brutal killers.
Murderer. Murderer. Aww, hes a cute lil killer. Aww, look at that one! His widdle
face! He killed dozens of people! Dozens!
Crocodiles barely cracked 1000 deaths a year. Some lesser-known entries rank quite highly,
with Assassin bugs, Tsetse flies, and shockingly enough, freshwater snails all killing around
10,000 people a year due to the diseases they carry. The snails carry a parasitic worm called
cercariae that can contaminate fresh water and cause a disease called Schistosomiasis,
the second-most deadly parasitic disease on the planet. Over 200 million people worldwide
are infected. Research it if you have a fever for being paranoid for the rest of your life.
Snakes kill roughly 50,000 people a year, but its a drop ion the bucket compared
to the number 1 and 2 slots. Coming in at number 2? MAN. The most dangerous game, and
the most dangerous hunter of the most dangerous game. They should really change the title
of that movie. Humans kill 475,000 humans a year. The only animal more dangerous to
humans than humans?
Mosquitoes. What? Mosquitoes? Seriously? I can squash them in my mighty paw. Boom. Crash.
*** you, mosquito! So why are they so deadly? Well, they carry the worlds most deadly
parasitic disease, malaria. Yeah, malaria is still a huge problem around the globe,
especially in less-developed countries. All told, mosquitoes kill roughly 725,000 people
a year. Thats nearly a quarter of a million people being killed by the most easily repelled
animal on this list. So what can we do about it? Organizations such as the World Health
Organization and Malaria No More have been able to drive down child malaria-related deaths
by 51 percent, and are hoping to eradicate the disease in the next decade. Well include
links in the description below if you want
to learn more.
