Hello
Today I'm going to the parts of a Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) citation for a book
chapter.
Then, you'll be able to create one on your own.
Let's get started!
Here we have a citation for a book chapter.
The parts of this chapter citation include:
The author name
The name of the chapter
The number of the chapter
The title of the book where the chapter appears
The place of publication of the book
The publisher of the book
And the year the book was published.
Let's take a closer look at these parts.
We'll start with the author's name: Last name first, followed by a comma, then the author's
first name, followed by a period.
Next is the title of the chapter, which is enclosed in quotation marks. Note that most
of the words within this title have been capitalized. Also note that there is a period within the
quotations.
Next, state the chapter number.
Then, include the book title, which is italicized and followed with a period.
In CMS format you can single space your citations, but be sure to do a hanging indent for subsequent
lines.
That just means to bring the line over about 4 places.
The next part of this citation is the place of publication, which is followed by a colon.
Next, include the publisher name, followed by a comma.
Finally, note the year that the book was published, followed by a period.
And that's how easy it is to create a simple book citation in Chicago Style format!
