UNC Charlotte’s School of Architecture offers a great well rounded education in architecture.
We provide a unique approach to integrating different aspects of architecture studies.
It’s housed within the College of Arts + Architecture which means that we get to have
opportunities to take classes with other art students.
Collaborations with other performing arts or also the visual arts – it’s a unique
experience and unique collaboration.
Part of what they learn is a turn of mind, a way of thinking about the world.
It has given me the opportunity to be able to express my ideas, to communicate my intention.
The studio environment here is like one large family.
We get along, we support each other, we all travel together.
We’ve been to Charleston, New York, Houston, Chicago – all over the country.
With professors in front of you showing you what to notice, making you see the city from
and architectural and design standpoint.
Professors make leaps and bounds to expose students to the professional culture of architecture.
We engage our students in our research.
And we bring in professionals who are out there designing, getting things built, in
a huge number of context in a huge range of places.
We also try and encourage every student to engage in study abroad opportunities…
through various programs that we offer in China in Europe and more recently in South
America.
There is an increasing body of students and faculty and staff from different backgrounds
with different nationalities,
The construction is so ongoing, it’s growing, so it’s a good place for young professionals
and young students.
There’s certain buildings that just pull you in and just make you want to explore them,
and it just sparks that passion.
Having the Center City Building is some of the footprint beyond the traditional campus
and allows us to be engaged in a way that we wouldn’t be able to otherwise.
That’s the great thing about our program is that the students, as they advance through,
have opportunity to engage, you know, some of the newest building technologies
I’m in the robotics course right now; we’re learning how to operate and fabricate using
the robotic arm.
So it’s really good to be in contact with all these facilities, faculties, and lecturers.
