Hi, I'm Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental Planning Initiatives
with the City of Greater Sudbury and this EarthCare Minute. We must all be mindful of
idling.
The main by product of idling is carbon dioxide which is the greenhouse gas
largely responsible for climate change.
Idling also wastes fuel. 10 seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting
the engine.
If every light vehicle driver in Canada avoided idling for just three minutes a day
we would prevent over a million tons of carbon dioxide from entering the
atmosphere
and save over six hundred million dollars. Idling can also be *** a
vehicle's
engine when it's not operating at its peak temperature. Driving a vehicle
is the best way to warm up all components. When in traffic, turn your
engine
off if you'll be stopped for more than two minutes. There are over 125
designated idle-free zones in Greater Sudbury. Request an
idle-free zone sign for your workplace from the EarthCare Sudbury website.
EarthCare Minute. One minute is all it takes.
Brought to you by the City of Greater Sudbury.
