Hello, and welcome to the tutorial for students at Alliant International University and this
is a tutorial for services and accommodations from the Office of Accessibility. I am your
presenter, Dr. Nina Ghiselli. I am the Systemwide Director of Disabilities Services and also
adjunct faculty for Alliant School of Education and the California school of professional
Psychology.
I'm also a person with a learning disability and who stutters, as well as a graduate from
the California School of Professional Psychology. So I come at this from my own perspective
on disability issues which you'll be able to watch some videos where I go into that
more.
Also what I've included in this is some information on how to talk to a person who stutters because
we're only less than one percent of the population. So when I do presentations I like to include
information about how to talk to a person who stutters because not everybody knows.
There are three main objectives to this workshop and this also goes somewhat for the agenda
that we'll be talking about as well. The workshop objectives include:
Introduction to the Office of Accessibility, 2. Understand how the law impact students
with disabilities and 3. Process for applying for and implementing
accommodations at Alliant International University.
The intent of this workshop is so that students understand what the process is both in terms
of signing up for accommodations but also how to implement those.
So what do you do when you talk to teachers and what kind of things should you know about?
Hopefully this workshop will help you to learn about this process and if you have any further
questions, you should talk to the coordinator at your school from the Office of Accessibility.
