To get started with Evernote, we first need to set up an account. Simply head over to
evernote.com, and under Create a free account, just enter your e-mail address and click Sign
Up.
Next, you'll be prompted to choose a password. Once you do so, you'll be taken to the download
page, where you'll immediately be prompted to download the Evernote client for your computer.
Click Save... and then open the installer when the download is complete. Note that you
may be prompted to close certain applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, while the installation
is in progress.
Once that's done, check your e-mail. You'll have a confirmation message waiting that serves
to verify your e-mail address. It also contains your Evernote username. Click the Confirm
Registration button. Your account is now fully set up and active.
After installation completes, launch Evernote. You'll be prompted to log in with your e-mail
or username (either one works) and the password you specified.
The Evernote client appears. To add a new note, click the New Note button here, or simply
press Ctrl-N. Your note can consist of anything -- a reminder, someone's address, or perhaps
a listing of your frequent flyer numbers. If there's any little piece of information
you think you might need later, stick it in Evernote.
For right now, I'm going to paste in my short, professional introduction.
When I start to accumulate more stuff, I can add notebooks that each serve a particular
purpose to keep me better organized, but for now, I'll simply give this item a text tag
or two. Just click the heading Click to add tag..., and I'll type "About Me". Later, when
I add more content and tag them appropriately, I'll be able to view all my CV-related content
at once just by selecting the About Me tag here in my Left Panel.
Keep in mind that all your notes are periodically synched to your account online. You can always
choose to sync right away by clicking the Sync button. Watch as I now go back to evernote.com.
You should still be logged into your account, but if not, just click the Sign in button
and log in with your credentials. And there's my short, professional introduction. The cool
thing is that all this information is now available to me no matter where I am in the
world.
