Coming up on Destructoid, online passes are confirmed Mass Effect 3. PSN proves once again
that hackers are going to hack. Battlefield 3 blows things up new trailer and Jesse Cortez
is in the studio with us today to talk about Extra Life. All that and more heading your
way on Destructoid.
Welcome to Destructoid I’m Tara Long.
I’m Max Scoville.
Have you Wednesday Max. We’re half way thorough out give away week if you remember. Are you
ok?
It’s very exciting, we have so many prizes. We are giving away more prizes today or announcing
winners from our things last episodes and we also have a copy of Battlefield 3 to give
away, three copies of Series Sam 3, PSE, you got to stay tuned to find out about that,
it’s going to be after the second half of the show. But first let’s do the news. Last
when we told you guys how multiplayer was going to be in Mass Affect 3 and today we
have more details on that. Bioware Pulse the show that airs on the official Mass Affect
YouTube Channel got an exclusive with execute producer Casey Hudson from BioWare who detailed
the games new mode and based on the description will be a multi player will be a mission based
experience that is not required to complete the single player campaign but will have some
direct effect on the story line if you do decide to play it. Players will get to team
up with three friends and take galactic threats and do space *** together. The good news
we’ll finally get to play as Aliens unfortunately they will not be familiar aliens. The characters
we know and love will not be in the player and players will be in charge of creating
their own characters. That’s really cool except you can’t play as garish. BioWare
put up a full FAQ on the Mass Affect forum which answer hard hitting questions like why
did you make this and what if I am not good at/do not like multi player will my readiness
rating go down. The overall message I am getting from the announcement is the Multi Player
is pretty tacted on, it might be decent and I’m a little bit curious about it but it
does not sound like it was part of the game from day one. There’s that. This could be
good could be bad I mean it’s the third game in a very successful series so adding
it anything that would shake things up too much probably wouldn’t be too smart so they
are trying out something new. If it sucks it’s not really integral to the game itself
and if it’s great then there you go. However it does look like Mass Effect 3 is going to
have an online pass system, yea, a redeemable code will be included on every new copy of
the game. If you buy it used you got buy a code to experience e online features like
this new exciting new multiplayer mode. There’s that.
That is exciting, Multi player and a video game what a novel concept. Anyway moving on
it was reported earlier today that Twisted Pixel the developer of such family friendly
titles as explosion man and the guns trigger have officially been bought by Microsoft.
Phil Spencer the dashingly handsome corporate Vice President of Microsoft Game Studios said
totally boring press release this morning, “Microsoft Studios is home to cutting edge
entertainment experiences, see how hot he is, and the incredible creativity of the Twisted
Pixel team will help drive further innovation around Kinect and Xbox Live.”. So twisted
pixel will now act along the likes of Wine head Studios who you might know from the fable
series and Rare the crazy successfully studio that made crazy popular games like Gold 007
and Donkey Kong country in the 90’s they got bought out by Microsoft in 2002 and started
developing games like Kinect Sports. Yeah here’s hoping that Twisted Pixel manages
to keep its creative control and continue making awesome games, this is pretty good
news, they’ve got money now.
Pixel has some cool guys I like them, they are very nice, I just really hope they don’t
wind up what Rare does unless Twisted Pixel makes a sequel to Killer Instinct which would
be incredible, seriously. Killer Instinct 3 by Twisted Pixel. Anyway here is a really
stupid story apparently 93,000 PSN accounts were compromised in another hacking of Sony’s
internet things. 93,000 sounds like a big huge number but it is less than one tenth
percent all users of the PlayStation Network, Sony Entertainment Network and Sony online
entertainment. Could be worse. Security officer and Cyber Crime defender Philip Rettinger
had the following to say, “we want to let you know that we have detected attempts on
Sony’s Networks to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network
database.” Basically someone’s attempting to use stolen login info and most likely obtained
from a different site not Sony which may not even accurate info. The majority of these
attempts failed but if an attempt on your account was somehow successful you will be
prompted to change your password. Sony said that no credit card numbers were compromised
still this is a pretty serious topic. You might even say that it’s super serial. Even
if you didn’t say that it didn’t stop commentators on Destructoid from posting the
best photos they could find of people eating cereal because why not this is why I love
this website. Cereal is more fun than internet security. But yeah change your password if
you are using Sony’s products, that’s.
What a hard hitting news program we have for you guys today. Speaking of hard hitting news
between Mind craft’s baby 1.9 update and War of the World crafts new guardian cup it’s
been a wonderful week for cute animals in video games wouldn’t you say. Starting sometime
very soon Blizzard plans to add it first tradable pet to the WOW pet store, the guardian cub
companion which is adorable can be traded in game between characters or given as a gift
to somebody but it’s one time activation only so once it finds to a character that’s
its master for life. Although this may seem silly to base a news piece on the real story
here is that this was a move on the part of Blizzard to reduce the number of incidence
of scamming via trading for invalid pet codes by allowing people to trade and sell pets
for gold on the auction house. Blizzard went on to say that they take a firm stance against
buying gold from third party sources like eBay because in most cases the gold that those
companies sell was stolen from a compromised account. So it’s good that Blizzard is looking
out for this stuff. While we are on the subject Blizzard I can now confirm that will be at
Blizz Con this year so if there is coverage of something that you really want to see just
let me know in the comments and I will try to get it done.
You should ask them about Titan, that one time I talked to that guy from Blizzard and
I asked about Titan and got all the people clicking on it.
Maybe that project got cancelled or something.
Who knows? But yeah pets that’s cool. We got some Battlefield 3 news. Dropped this
new destruction trailer which just shows *** getting blown up, that’s fun. On top of
that Destructoid writer Casey Baker just put up his thoughts about the multi player time
he had with Battlefield 3. He previously previewed the Campaign mode and had some reservations
after playing that and of course form his time with the now infamous public beta but
it sounds like he’s come away from this latest multiplayer which much opinion of the
game. Now obviously it looks great and pretty but he was actually really impressed graphics
even on PS3. Perhaps most importantly he said that bill he played was more stable and polished
than the beta that would suggested and furthermore his concerns about the small and linear nature
of the operational metra map of the beta will put the rest after checking at the dessert
map option firestorm which is apparently too big to traverse on foot. Luckily there were
jets and helicopters and all manner of tanks and fun things to play with. Yu can go over
Casey’s full review of the Battlefield Multi Player over on the Destructoid.com including
dices response to whether or not the game would have dinosaurs.
Oh, spoiler?
Yes maybe, who knows. We are also going to be giving away copy of Battlefield field 3
for PC later in the show but for now thank our sponsor. Computer disasters eventually
happen to everyone, your computer crashes, gets infected with a virus, you drop it, get
stolen, set on fire, etc. but if you get Carbonite online back up before your disaster then no
need to worry because your files will be backed up automatically and safely offsite and its
really easy to get them back. Plus you get anytime, anywhere access to your backed up
files from any computer, or on a Smartphone or ipad with a free Carbonite app. With Carbonite
unlimited back up for your PC or MAC is just $59 per year that’s less than $5 a month
and when you use the offer code Destructoid to start your free 15 day trial you’ll get
two months free if you decide to buy. All the details are at Carbonite.com and remember
to use the offer code Destructoid to get those two months free with purchase.
Alright we are back and we are joined with Jessie Cortez, or tactics as you might know
him. He is the west coast community manager for Destructoid so he is the guy who plans
all of our community events and party’s and pretty much everything that is fun that
happens for Destructoid. Welcome Jessie.
Thanks, thanks or having me.
Thanks for coming on the show so you are here to talk about extra life, what is that?
Extra Life is a charity event that was started by sarcastic gamer up to now it’s been rising
over $300,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and since then Destructoid has been
doing its part to help out. Last year we had a 24 hour game marathon we raised over $6,000.
I was there for that actually, Holmes MC’d for 8 hours straight or something ridiculous
like that.
Can you split or something?
Oh was that the thing stuck his foot in my mouth.
That’s where you slapped Tom
Oh I did where I punched that was
That was charity water.
Basically the time for us to do really dumb stuff under the auspices of charity. That’s
cool what are we doing this year, what’s the plan?
We’re doing the same thing again, we are going to be streaming 24 hours playing video
games this year we are streaming from Topware here in Petaluma we are going to be playing
lots of great games. We have different segments, we have a fighting game section which I am
going to be hosting. We are having a Pokémon snap segment which Tara is going to be
I am going to be playing Pokémon everyone yes the rumors are true and I will probably
lose horribly.
I am going to be playing a scary game. We were we’re going to do Amnesia Dark Descent
but we can only do stuff that is on consoles because its just complicated with the stream
set up, so if you guys have suggestions for scary games I should play that are on consoles
like let’s do it. I’ll cry like a baby.
Yeah we will have lots of different games and it’s all for you guys to entertain you
guys and we also ask for your donations. There is a post on the Destructoid right now that
has a list of the schedule for 24 hours and not only we playing games we’re also going
to be giving away prizes so there is tons of prizes that have been given to us to give
you to you guys given us some right points for election we have games from UV Soft, from
2 K games, compound flags
I’ll probably just draw some pictures and mail them to people.
We did that last year.
It’s a lot of fun we do this you guys should tune in for that it’s cool and it makes
us feel like less of cha-chas for having the dumbest jobs in the world.
Where are people are going to be able to watch it and when it is?
It’s going to be on our twitch TV channel, Twitch.TV/ Destructoid and it’s going to
be this Saturday, at 10 a.m. and going for 24 hours until 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Wonderful, I’m signed up for 2 hour block around 4 p.m. on Saturday and I’ll think
you are going later, but that could change. I am going to be there for longer than my
designated slot anyway.
We’re going to do this and you guys should tune into this because it’s for charity,
it’s for children and if you don’t like charity or children you are a ***.
There’s that, it’s that simple.
Alright well Jessie thanks for joining us. You guys can catch Jesse on Destructoid.com
every so often and tune in for Extra Life this weekend it’s going to be a lot of fun.
So we are half way through our give away where we are giving out prizes every single day
on the show and on our Twitter and Facebook, that’s Twitter.com/dtoidshow and Facebook/detoidshow.
We’ve got our first batch of winners to announce.
We’re going to show you our winners.
For the dragon 2 contest we asked you to leave your best dragon joke in the comments in the
last episode. Let me just say before I announce the winners having to read YouTube comments
for wok is quite literally torture.
I like how many of you guys just Google dragon jokes. That’s works.
That said, here are the winners. Matthew Mark Moore said “if a dragon fought Godzilla,
who would win? SyFy Channel. That made me chuckle. So congratulations to you.
Mega shark versus giant octopus. On originality versus TV movie source.
Tpetcher123 had the joke, “what do you get when you have a dragon egg?” A ***’
dragon. Get it? A dragon has to *** to
Where do baby dragon comes from.
No we are not getting into this Max that’s for another day. So we also asked you guys
to send in what you think our album cover would look like to win one of two guitars
Hero’s warrior of rock bundles and we haven’t gotten any responses so far so we are going
to extend that contest until Thursday night so get to photo shopping and email us your
submissions to show@ Destructoid.com
Yeah maybe put album cover in the subject so we can sort through these things.
We have been getting a lot of emails.
Go nuts, go crazy, take like a Judas priest album cover and put our faces over the things
on it or something.
Or something else that’s not that.
Next up we’ve got a reminder about our Astro 840 headset contest which is ending on Thursday
night as well. We asked you guys to make us a birthday, look at those fancy, oh you look
like commuter Shepherd with that headset. Anyway we’re giving one of these away, its
super nice it has the custom dtoid side tags right there we don’t have a picture of them
but for that you have to make us a birthday video. So something that is at most 30 seconds
long and preferably not ***, so it’s safe you YouTube so we can put it on the show.
Make a video and send that to show@desctructoid.com and the deadline is Thursday night at midnight.
If we didn’t have enough crazy contest we also have three codes for Series Sam 3 BFE
to give away, these are for PC. These are the full mother *** game to do that you
have to make some Serious Sam versus Destructoid fan art. You can draw it, Photoshop it paint
it whatever stitch it, do a quilt
Oh that would be nice.
Send that to show@descructoid.com by Sunday at midnight and we’ll announce the winners
on Monday’s show. That could be cool you just draw pictures of us fighting Series Sam.
Or you could Photoshop.
Yeah do whatever you want it just make a picture and send it to us.
We like art
And you win a video game. Finally we’ve got our PC shooter prize pack that we are
giving away to one lucky viewer and it has a code for PC version Battlefield 3 as well
as a beta code for counter strike global offensive CSgo and finally it’s got a razor mechanical
keyboard which is really good the click typing on, you can do the wasda or arrow keys or
whatever you do. To win that all you have to do is make a picture, any kind picture
again just a picture that shows how much you love PC shooters. It can be a photo kissing
your gaming rig or drawing of you and your machine gun getting married you can photoshop
them or a collage, draw it whatever. Send that to show@destructoid.com. You seeing the
pattern here, show@destructoid.com have the subject be Love is a Battlefield by Thursday
night at midnight pacific time.
Don’t send us a picture of you *** your machine
Don’t send pictures of you *** anything, please, so that’s.
So that’s all for our show.
*** look at those mother ***, rise. Yeah. We’re going to eat those and then
get those powers.
