The Other Side of the Curtain
Episode 4
Getting dressed
Today we are going to see how we organise the clothing.
We were in Castelló looking for some clothes,
because the director wants us to make our own costumes.
I liked very much the first store we went to because of the wide range of clothes.
For me, I would like a jacket…
I was the first one, and I already had in mind a certain type of clothes and colours.
But as I could not find what I wanted, I got a little bit obfuscated.
There was a large variety of clothes of different colours:
blues, yellows, oranges... -And that purple? It suited you very well.
It is ideal. -This is a woman’s cloth.
Well, I rather interpret the role of the posh girl.
I don’t quite like it, though. Do you remember the feathers’ one?
I do remember.
When I went downstairs, I was amazed.
Andrea was taking one cloth from here, another from there...
And Arianne was putting flowered strips on different clothes…
But both of them did their own.
Actually there I had fun. -It was even better when Alex put the skirt on.
Indeed. -He just clowns around...
We found ourselves at ease it the second store we went to because they treated us very well.
They were very nice. And when we entered, I saw that purple cloth I was looking for.
It was perfect for the costume which had to be simple and with some pastel shades,
just suiting the character’s clothing, since she had been raised in a rich environment.
She needs a different type of costume for Éponine’s.
However, when she was about to buy that cloth, We realized there wasn’t enough cloth.
The shop assistant did all she could… -But I had to take a different one.
It is very simple and elegant, though. -It goes very well with the character of Cosette.
Then, Carlos took a look at a red cloth.
He showed me some checked plaid which I liked, but it was too modern for this.
The clothes from the third store were quite suitable for Éponine’s costume.
There were rough clothes with earth tones.
That fitted well her character of a poor woman.
We also needed something we could break to give that impression to the audience.
In this establishment they offered a large range and variety.
Moreover, they had the last pieces of clothes at a very good price.
We also looked at the upholstery because we would need thick fabrics for the coats.
While Carlos and I were downstarirs, the girls were looking at the checked fabrics.
I need a checked vest because it would fit the character’s posh student style.
He could not make up his mind.
We showed him a certain kind of checked clothes but he would not like it.
At first, he was looking for a red checked cloth, although I prefered a blue one.
It is Enjorlas who should dress in red, given that he is the revolutionary one.
It was nice, actually. -Now, we only need that Rebeca agrees with it.
She is the love of your life.
You must think that you don’t have much experience.
You have to fall in love more. Look at her.
I do look at her already, but...
Come on in, Esther.
This is yours. It is a kind of a bodice.
This shirt too. And the skirt? 65 00:05:55,00 --> 00:05:60,00 Oh, perfect. Moreover it pairs perfectly with the shirt.
Very well, then.
This skirt is yours as well, isn’t it?
Yes, this is mine but… -For Esther, right?
Arianne come on in. Is this the skirt?
She lent it to me but it is useless... -Because it is too short.
Have you brought another one?
Have you made it yourself? -Yes.
What about the shoes? -A pair of shoes tied like the military shoes.
Military... but not from this century, right? -No.
Instead of this... could it be a strip?
This is too shiny for the camera, and with the light beam…
If I had to choose, I will take the other one.
Alfredo, you have the shirt, the vest and the trousers you took home…
They are there. -Are they the black ones, right?
Yes. -And also the strip and the cap.
Alright, then. You are all set. Now call Marta, please.
You had a shirt and a corset. What else?
Now I bring a skirt.
Your mother made it, didn’t she?
What a small waist. Let’s see... perfect.
That’s enough. You are all set too.
And the apron? -Oh, yes. It is this one over here.
Yes, Marta: three. Thank you.
You needed a skirt. Do you have it already? -No
We would get you one if you could not bring it.
And remember, the colours must be neutral and muted such as brown, black, grey…
Not strong or bright colours.
It would be good to have fabrics like cotton or whool. Is that clear?
Is this from El Corte Inglés? -No, it is from Pull & Bear.
But this... -Wait. Let’s look at this piece by piece.
This jacket will not do. It is very nice… -It suits perfectly with jeans.
And this suit... -Wait. I have been looking at the jacket
and I will make a checked vest matching it like in the movie, and the trousers too.
It is too dark. Your character is young and he does not have to wear dark colours.
I am looking for blue tones, not black ones.
This could be useful for the final wedding.
I am looking for dark green, brown, earthly and muted tones. From that time.
This is the cloth for my dress.
Very fallero, folkloric.
But you can do it, since you are Cosette and you belong to the bourgeoisie.
It is fallero and curtain style. Alright then.
Anyone else?
No? -They say no.
I’m done, then.
