Hello, lovelies. I've been doing some courses in the library for fun this summer. I took
part in a writer's workshop, I played computer games with kids, and I have a lot of other
activities lined up for the summer. Yesterday, I took on quite a different challenge: hula
hooping for fitness. For a small fee I got to decorate my own hoop and learn how to exercise
with it. It was the most intense hour of working out I've ever done in my life...and I think
I was only conscious for, like, ten minutes of it. So without further ado, I present my
completely free, condensed version of Hula Hooping for Fitness. Now, the selection of
a hoop is very important. When you're shopping for a hoop, you're gonna want one that has
a little weight on it, but not too much. You want it to be sturdy, but also movable. Now,
to find a hoop of the right size, you're gonna want to put it on the ground and get it to
around belly button...height. Now, any good workout starts with some stretches. Doin'
a little bit of this... Get some of these goin' on... Get you're muscles workin', get
the blood flowin', you know? Start driving the bus, drive the big bus, y'know? Look,
I'm in a spaceship! Get the legs moving, get the arms movin'. So now that you're all stretched
out and you've found an open space, we're gonna start here. The hoop is pressed against
the small of my back, we've got the hands close to the back but not quite at the back,
and so what we're gonna do is we're gonna swing it. And when we swing it we're gonna
move our hips forward and backward. Not around in a circle, forward and backward, like this.
See, inertia is gonna keep this thing moving forward, so--crap... You can put a foot slightly
forward if it helps. So the trick with this is that you want to be going fast enough that
it stays up--*gasp*--but slow enough that you don't dislocate a hip. So if you're not
dead yet, you can try to move your arms when you do it. Little bit of wiggle--oop, maybe
not. A little wiggle wiggle in the front right here...oh, yes!--*gasp*--ow! By the way, this
can burn 80 calories in 10 minutes if you can survive that long. So there's really nothing
to it except immense core strength. *gasp* And then what you do is lay on the ground
and take a nap, because you've worked hard, and you deserve it. That was exhilarating.
Thanks a ton to BodyHoops for the great workout and the stylish hoop. If you want to buy your
own hoop, you can go to bodyhoops.com. And no, angry commentor, this is not a paid product
placement. I'm never going to accept money for product placements. Just so you know,
if I name-drop a product, it's because I like it, and it's not because they're giving me
money. Like anyone would pay me, anyway! Thanks for watching , lovelies! I'm Heathen Benny,
see ya later.
