It is a complete Desert
Our plan is to make it to Sweden, and it is getting harder and harder to make it.
We are low on water and we are in the middle of nowhere as you can see.
We stop in the middle of nowhere and we have absolutly no clue where we are.
When you look at the map there are roads on it that in reallity dont exist.
We see three Mongolians coming towards us on horses, and we dont know what is going to happen.
Well, we dont know where we are at the moment.
When we first saw these three Mongolians we asked ourselfs if they might be armed.
Because many Mongolians are armed.
It turned out to be three kids from a Nomadic village and they were very curious about our ATV:s.
We talked to them for a bit using mainly sign language. We asked them for directions.
But they all pointed in different directions. We later learned they always do that.
They always point out the compass direction and also how to get there. it turned out we were on the right track.
We reach this little fuelstation out in the wild and there is this woman running it.
And we ask her for directions.
Then Peter tells me we have done a detour of 105 miles.
Kristian got a bit ancious about the fact that we were a bit lost. he worried about if we were safe and if we were going to get food in time.
I got very irritated over the fact that i had taken us on this long detour. I just made our day twice as long.
Our plan is to make it to Sweden by a certain date and it is getting harder and harder to make it.
The environment started to change and it became harder to read the terrain.
I always had to look out for sharp rocks and try my best to avoid them.
For the first couple of hundred miles the environment was green and grassy.
And then BOOM! there was the desert. only sand and rocks.
We see it in the distance, we stop and look at each other and then we just went for it.
It is a complete desert and the horizon is all foggy because of the heat.
And we see these black dots in it wich we think are horses but they turned out to be wild camels.
Ok lets walk very slowly.
Peter decided to try and feed the camels with some müsli.
When we approached the Camels they smelled terribly.
They look pretty mean.
When i got closer i thought that this is no good idea. What if he bites my fingers of or kicks me in the face.
We just arrived near the Flaming Cliffs and a Mongolian guy tells us about some park rangers guarding it.
So nobody would trespass into the area.
He kept showing us in different ways how to avoid them by driving around them.
We finally decided to take his advice and we drove a big cirkle around them.
But we had to drive carefully so they wouldnt see our tail of dust from miles away.
As we entered the Flaming Cliffs canyon we were happy to discover there were other people there.
It ways nice to meet other travellers after many lonely days of driving.
And after many days of driving we finally arrived at the big belt of sand dunes in the middle of the Gobi desert.
this has been our biggest goal in Mongolia, so of course we were going to play around in it.
Come to think about it, we were prabably not very carefull about ourselfs or the ATV:s.
We didnt know much about sand dunes. So we did not know what to expect.
The first thing that came to my mind when i got stuck was OH NO!
We always worried about getting into a situation that we could not get out of by ourselfes.
Because there is nobody you can ask for help out there.
It just kept getting deeper and deeper.
we have to dig.
We always had to be on a constant move or else we would sink into the sand.
Finally we got it out and could continue our journey. We hoped it had not damaged the maschine.
So here we are taking a little break about 50 dusty kilometers later.
The situation is very bad as we are low on water and in the middle of nowhere as you can see.
As we came across our first big rainstorm since entering the desert, it brought our mood down a bit.
We were not prepared for rain in the desert and did not bring any raincoats and such things.
Kristians maschine just refuses to start, we check it through and come to the conclusion it is completly out of fuel.
We havent seen a single car or human being for over two days.
This is the worst possible spot for a situation like this.
