Announcer: Saints fans, please turn your attention to the big screens to honor
today’s Peoples Health Champion – Bobby McIntyre.
Bobby McIntyre: My vision – The renaissance of the 400 block of
South Rampart Street.
My motto – If not me, who? If not now, when?
Donna Klein: In October 2001, at age 70, Bobby McIntyre unveiled his plan to
restore a block in downtown New Orleans to its roots
in the Golden Age of Jazz.
Bobby has had a long standing passion to bring our past to the future and that
passion can’t be felt any stronger than his interest in restoring the 400 block of
South Rampart Street. We are blessed to have someone like Bobby and his
tenacity. He intends to have an interactive exhibit, a jazz hall of fame. He wants us to
feel as though we actually are back in the 1920’s.
Bobby McIntyre: I’m seventy-nine years of age.
I served many people and many causes, made many friends. And now
that has led me to this, the creation of the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
Donna Klein: Thank you Bobby, I can almost hear those trumpets playing now.
