At two o clock in the afternoon the convoy is leaving the camping site
close to the Atlantic ocean in the southern part of Marocco
Our first stop is a cyber café
Ulfert and Jan are going to email the actual tour video to Germany
Internet explorer in Arabic and the keyboard are looking strange to us a bit
Where do I find the @ at this Arabic keyboard?
Ah, here. Alt Gr Zero. Perfect
We meet Brahim and Lachsin
Immediately they start checking out our homepage to watch the tour videos
Half an hour later the video has been sent and we say good bye like friends
Let’s go!
One thousand kilometers – we have figured out –
we have to go to reach the border of Mauretania. 14 hours of driving.
The sun is shining. We put on sunglases and T-shirts. We are happy
Here there was a lot of rain also We see huge puddles along the road
Here the road itself is flooded by water So, turn on the music and let´s go
Just before entering the Western Sahara we are taking fuel and
filling our spare cans with 300 extra liters of diesel to be prepared for the desert
40 Euro cents per liter - getting diesel here is fun.
Crossing the Sahara desert there are only a few petrol stations available
There they will charge us one Euro per liter
Therefore we also fill up the spare cans with diesel fuel now
All our cars have been running without problems
for more than two thousand kilometers
since the breakdowns at the French-Spanish border
Who would have thought
Its half past six pm. We only made 250 kilometers this afternoon
1000 kilometers in total we have to go until we reach the Mauretanian border
Over there the sun is just going to fall into the ocean
Now 750 kilometers of driving at night are coming up
There are more checkpoints to pass The policemen ask the convoy to stop
They check all documents and wish us a happy journey
In the evening we pass Layoune – the capital of Western Sahara region
It is pitch-dark along the road
Spotlights at the horizon show oncoming traffic. Heavy trucks are passing by
We are getting alarmed over the radio
Please drive more slowly The Pickup car can’t keep anymore
The convoy is moving too fast
for the Pickup car with its 300 liters of extra diesel
What´s the problem with the car?
It´s very bad
The car is heavily loaded with the diesel spare cans
It is swimming over the road, all these pockholes
That’s not good at all But we could go faster
around one hundred Should be possible
We keep staying in contact with our families at home
also during the night in the middle of nowhere
I am just sending a text message home. So that my family gets to know
where we are right know and what we are doing
Before I thought it would be warm and hot.
What we do have now: rain and internet access. That’s also ok, isn’ it?
Now we are moving a bit slower. It’s a cold night in the desert.
Around midnight we notice that we´d miscalculated the distance.
There are 200 kilometers more to go . to the Mauretanian border
We don´t care. Let´s go!
