By coming to Syracuse University and taking the Technology Commercialization Program,
the students will get the benefit of the academic part of what's involved in commercializing
technology, but they'll also get the practical experience, because we do real live projects,
with real live companies, and real live technologies.

Syracuse University offers a unique opportunity to the student who wants to enter this field.
We have the Whitman School of Business and Entrepreneurship, we have the Maxwell School
of Citizenship, we have a well-recognized engineering school, and and iSchool.. We can
tap into any one of the professors of these various colleges to train our students, to
work side by side with their better students, to develop a solution to a particular company's
problem, or to a particular roadblock of a technology.
It's multifaceted, working with intellectual property, also all the business and marketing
aspects. I found it really beneficial to see how business, law, and technology tie so well
in together.
We can apply really what we learn at a basic level to specific projects with the clients
and make a difference

It's a common misnomer that you have to have a science background, which is not true. It
is helpful, however we have a variety of students who just have a desire to make a difference
in the technology world, and anyone who has that interest can really succeed here.
The program is really so interdisciplinary that we can really benefit from finance majors,
or english majors, or science majors. So, really the more students with a wider variety
of backgrounds, the better.
You don't have to be a science major, you don't have to be a technologist... The people
with a big mind, the big idea, the people who want to find an answer. The people that
know how to find an answer, regardless of their discipline, regardless of their background,
that's what we want.

The technology commercialization program was an invention of Syracuse College of Law. It
is now into almost its 25th year. We have a network of graduates out there, approaching
three hundred, who are working in this field. What better way to connect for our graduates,
to get jobs, to start a career in this field?
After graduation, I'll be working for a full service, large law firm in Manhattan.
After graduation, I'll be working for a large patent firm in Manhattan.
I had three students last year working on a project for a medium-sized company in Western
New York. They had a new technology, they wanted to create a new business... Those three
students worked with that company. After they graduated, that company hired those three
students to create that business.
Syracuse has prepared me very well for my future career in law.
I believe our students are profession-ready. I believe they're ready to hit the ground
running when they leave this program. They've already done real work.
